The only reason to ever buy the PC version of RE4 is if you don’t own a PS2 game system, because the PC version is a direct translation of the PS2 version of the game. That being said, if you do buy the PC version...do yourself a favor and buy an official US version. You can buy it new from Walmart now for $20 and a used one on eBay w/shipping will cost about half that. I’ve learned from experience to stay away from “import” software on eBay, because it’s really just black-market/bootleg software (usually Russian). Not only is it illegal, but it requires the installation of Daemon Tools software to run. One of the main purposes of this type of software is to get around copyright protections. It’s my understanding that some licensed software won’t even run if it detects Daemon Tools on your computer. Also, with black-market software there’s always the risk that it may contain some kind of spyware, malware, etc. Another benefit of getting the official US version of this game is that it already includes the shading patch for improved graphics. The worst aspect of RE4 is the controls...they suck, but once you get used to this the game is quite good...lots of action and variety, good graphics (except the cut-scenes) and the game is quite long with numerous bonus features. If you enjoy horror/survival games and don’t own a PS2 system...this PC game is definitely worth checking out. Make sure you have the right graphics card first, however, as you’ll need one that supports shading and apparently this game doesn't work with Vista(?) either. A good gamepad would also help, because you can't use a mouse/touch-pad with this game. I prefer using the keyboard though and it wasn't difficult. I've never played any of the RE games before, but this game reminded me a lot of the Silent Hill games. The main differences being that the SH games have more difficult puzzles and more adult and disturbing themes and visuals. If that's what you prefer, then definitely check out Silent Hill 2...a great game.Read full review
Resident Evil 4 is a great game. Awesome graphics and story and with the new aiming system this game is great. This sequel doesn't really feel like the other games in my opinion, the games before it had a more suspensful and eerie feel to the game while this one feels more of a shootem up, don't get me wrong they took the game in a great direction and both styles are great. Couple things I complain about is in the cutscenes where they make you press a combination of buttons (like an annoying simon says game) in order to stay alive which to me was very annoying. For my taste I like to just relax and just watch the cutscenes and enjoy the story, but this has you dying many times until you memorize the button combinations. And lastly what I will complain about is the ending, I won't give away any spoilers but it might as well just given me a text that says "Congratulations" because it was awful. All in all this is a great game if you loved the other resident evil games you'll definatley like this one.Read full review
NOTICE! The PC version of this game DOES NOT support a mouse! Check all over the internet and you will see that the biggest complaint against this good game is no mouse is supported. If you are comfortable using the keyboard to aim a gun/knife etc.,and quickly, then its great for you. If not do yourself a favor and DON'T buy this game. There are a couple of files floating on the net to try to mod/patch this feature, written by non-Capcom programmers. Be weary of downloading executable files that you dont know the contents or where they are coming from.Your best bet is to buy a hand controller for the PC similar to the console type, and use it.Otherwise this game is great fun and well done. Hope this helps, since the box states its mouse supported....ITS NOT!
Res4 Does not work on Vista Business that was a huge let down for me :( though i had XP Pro so there was still hope for playing Res4 on PC. I still havent beat the game which brings me to my rant about the game. IT HAS NO MOUSE SUPPORT. because of this i find my self tapping aswd just so i can get a headshot unlike other games. the sensitivity for the buttons is INSANE. heres what i really dont like im probably going to have to buy a Joystick our Xbox 360 controller and a converter or a logitech controller. i have many games but i have no need for a controller or joystick. i Prefer using my keyboard most people are good right off at games because they've played on consoles. but no the keyboard, hehe thats how i make ppl look bad :D which rings me to a problem to the game not a good at all manual!!!! i was in game and it says to press 3 To pick up some pintas i was like what!?!?!? until i found out it was enter then when i was running from some boulders it said to dodge 5+6 again i was like T_T until i found out it was the shift buttons. it would seem the programmers for the computer slacked a bit with some parts of the game with no real difference from the consoles id have to say it was a real letdown. but since im a RES4 fan id give this game a 4/5. And if you own a Xbox 360 im sure backwards compatibility will be fine. im not sure about ps3 though.Read full review
A must have for anyone who has played the RE series, great gameplay, maybe not as scary, the camera might seem annoying at first but you get used to it, actually when you are deeper in the game you realize how good the camera position is. I dont like that Capcom chose Ubisoft for the PC port, if you want to get shadow and lighting effects as good as in console versions, you must apply the 1.10 patch wich by the way I was unable to find in ubi.com . I had to download it from fileplanet or gamespot, can't exactly remember. In general no matter how much bad development the PC versio suffered, RE4's gameplay is good, quick, upbeat, misterious, A+++++. Great experience.
