This is one of the better GH games that were made. This was about the time that GH started to die, but that doesn't mean that THIS isn't a good game. This had one of the more extensive track lists from the whole series, and is a must play if you're still into music games.

This guitar broke in the first day. Strum bar just stopped registering. I had my suspicions when the start button was spelled "seart", guess I should have known! Cheap garbage.

Well thankfully I had enough money to buy Guitar Hero 5. This was the nail in the coffin to me, I hated world tour and smash hits. (metallica was good though) Easy to see and say. I'm a rock band fan, and a beatle fan, I'm more so excited for this, but since Neversoft took over GH it seems like the series has gone downhill a lot and I much perfer Harmonix and rock band. But for me, if they didn't do good on GH5 then this was it. So as my teaser says, it's really a pleasent surprise. I fired the game up and went to party play, which is a nice change, it eliminateds everything that might put a damper on the game (the star system, score, and etc) it's really just about having fun. The setlist is the worst part in my opinion. Yes they have a lot of tracks and the import system with DLC and world tour songs to GH5, which is great. They have tons of bands to appeal to every taste in music, which again is great. But the songs themselves are decent, really good, or I could care less meh. Your avatar can play as well on a side note. The only really new thing is party play, which works perfectly and smoothly, it's a fantastic addition. I also really like how they changed the backrounds of everything, like the bands playing and such, it just looks a lot better then any other guitar hero. I'm gonna make this review very breif, short, and to the point. This is one of the best Guitar Heros out there, while in opinion (and don't flame me for this.) Rock Band 2 is better, this game is damn good fun and I think if your a fan of music games and this genre you should definetly check it out.Read full review
My nephew picked up Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock recently for the 360. I played it a bit and, i gotta tell you, i'm totally addicted to this game unlike many i've ever encountered. It's fun to begin with, but, if you love music, it'll take you to a whole other level. We now practically own every single GH game. I have World Tour on my pc, which all guitars work with, the usb plugs right in and windows 7 detects it no problem. I also purchased a wireless receiver for the pc so i can rock out w/ my nephew in head to head. I don't know how many more titles will come of GH since their next project seems to be more band/party oriented than individual guitarist. But, whatever they release next, depending on playlist, i am likely to buy it. The playlist in this title, GH5, it's decent. WT has the best playlist, imho, but it came w/ a faulty guitar in the bundle so i'd suggest picking up this bundle, if only for the guitar and consider the game a freebie. I bought the Aerosmith guitar bundle for my nephew. Also off eBay. It's at a great price point. The guitar is excellent as well. Though, i did have to re-adjust my techniques switching from that one to this new one. It's considerably bigger and the neck is longer because of the new slider. I haven't been able to use it yet, it's come up but i'm not quite at the point where i can take my hand off the buttons and slide it down..it works beautifully, though. I have tested it out, just not during a game. So, in closing..if you are even remotely into music, or just always wanted to be a rock star, you HAVE TO get this game. I don't care if it's GH5 or Aerosmith or even Metallica. It's worth it and will, if only, expand your knowledge of classic music for you and your kids.Read full review
For those who disliked the previous Guitar Hero title, Guitar Hero World Tour, breath a sigh of relief, because the franchise you've come to love is back with their 5th installment, aptly named Guitar Hero 5. While the setlist of songs isn't as great as the Guitar Hero 3 days, this is step in the right direction away from the highly pop-ish rock of World Tour. The graphics are much improved over the glitchy World Tour system, and the sometimes-annoying patterns on the note path have been removed, and a slick black path makes note reading much easier. While there is no real challenge on guitar compared to 3 and WT, Guitar Hero 5 is enjoyable on ALL instruments, and is a must have for all music game lovers.
