If you haven't had a chance to play Mirror's edge, now is the perfect time to buy it. I thought it was a great game and enjoyed playing every second of it, but it is rather on the short side. There is some re-replayability, but not enough for the game to be worth 50 dollars. I would have never had paid full price for it, but for the discounted prices it's available for now it is more than worth it. I really enjoyed playing through Mirror's Edge and really liked the unique play mechanics. If you enjoyed Portal, this has the same kind of unorthodox game play. Also, if you have the computer power, the graphics look amazing, especially with PhysX turned on. The story is another positive feature of the game and I really loved the anime style cut scenes, really gave a new style to the game. Pros: -Amazing Graphics -Fun, original game play -Interesting story with characters you can connect with -Low price Cons: -Short game -Not a huge amount of re-playability -PhysX is a real CPU hog All in all, if you have ever even considered buying Mirror's Edge it is definitely worth making the purchase now before these deals disappear.Read full review
Graphics: Primary yet Contemporary 8/10 Sound: Great – 8/10 Gameplay: Great – 8/10 Replay Value – Good (for a single player only game) 8/10 Overall – 8/10 Graphics: Primary yet Contemporary 8/10 The graphics go right along with the story – a future utopia that is perfect on the surface, and vibrant in life, is cracking from within. The use of whites and primary colors, along with the blur effects, really puts you in the shoes as a runner. The environments are basic, however, create the feel of what Mirror’s Edge is. Sound: Great – 8/10 The footsteps and the use of surfaces is minor, but without this detail to sound, it would be impossible to jump. It tells you subconsciously that you are the one running and sets off a timer in your head to better play this game. The music, techno in nature, is hypnotic and really sets the stage for what you are dealing with. Though it can be annoying (especially when trying a part MULTIPLE times), it heightens anxiety and gameplay. Gameplay: Great – 8/10 Smooth animations, huge world design, and a fresh and unique perspective on the first person shooter (FPS) genre. The story melds with this futuristic run, and was a game that I felt that I couldn’t put down (Portal style). Replay Value – Good (for a single player only game) 8/10 For a single player adventure, this games time runs, and speed runs, you get hooked on how can you shave seconds off your time. Overall – Fun new experience 8/10 This game is short, so be prepared, and the main story, set on normal, only took about 6-7 hours to complete without weapon use (heightened difficulty). That being said, the time trial modes and the set challenges will keep you playing this single player game. A heightened sensory game, and that can revolve on not using a gun, this game is a breath of fresh air, and makes excellent strides in its’ uniqueness, however, fails to reach the pinnacle it could be.Read full review
This game is great overall. I think there may be some who were expecting a slightly longer, more intriguing, and less predictable storyline, myself included. Still, the true test of a game is its replay value and upping the difficulty adds a much needed layer to the game, as it is a short play. On top of that there are time trials and high score competitions to keep people interested. The one thing that everyone should know about this game is that you will die plenty of times. Mastering the timing and getting to know where your feet are (w/o looking down) takes some practice but it's worth it. Though the game does make use of some basic weaponry (handgun, ~Tek 9, Shotgun & Assault Rifle), it is not a traditional FPS the game is really meant to be played in the way Portal would be played...on crack. If you have a solid gaming rig you will enjoy this game as half of this game’s thrill is the design of the world around you.Read full review
For Freerunning AND Parkour fans, you don't want to miss this game! This game brings excitement at every turn! Remember to always look up if you get stuck! As for the gameplay itself... Mighty impressive. The disarming opponent thing could've been implemented better when in missions though... Also, for all you wondering well.. I heard this game slows down a lot. When you go into the game menu, turn PhysX OFF! Barely any slow down will occur, and you should probably keep anti-aliasing at 2x to be safe. Good story, and really good game. I've played before and decided to purchase it because it is definitely a game I can play over and over again! Will be playing this one for a long time and am awaiting Mirror's Edge 2!
I had played the demo for Mirror's Edge and decided it was worth a buy. After purchasing and beating the game, though short, I was definetly satisfied. The game puts you in the first person view of a parkour runner and takes you on an adrenaline ride throughout the city. You have to use wits, reflexes, and creativity to find or create the fastest route from point A to point B, all the while enjoying the artistic scenery created by the DICE team - powerful use of colour, lighting, and shapes dominate the game's visual design, and you feel as though you're getting the chance to play within a real piece of art. The main story is short, and leave some wanting more; fortunately, the time trials are difficult and require a lot of creativity, as well as trial an error, to be able to make a flawless run as well as discover the best possible route. If, somehow, you're still hungering for more after beating the time trials (which, I believe, are the more difficult and addicting elements within this game), there are also the speedruns that allow you to attempt a story-line level while timing yourself to beat a designated time mark. And, as if all that wasn't enough, you can purchase additional time trial maps online from EA.com, which, I thought, were definetley worth the buy. Overall, a great game, and a breath of fresh air from all the grunge, dirt, and brown that has been dominating the visual aspects of games for some time.Read full review
