Originally released as a digital download for Wii, DSi, and PC formats, Cave Story makes its 3DS debut with an enhanced presentation, an additional area to explore, and an unlockable "Prinny" character from publisher NIS America's quirky Disgaea series. The gameplay is otherwise unchanged, with you guiding a young hero through a hazard-filled cave viewed from a side-scrolling perspective.

Cave Story is similar in concept to Super Metroid and later entries in the Castlevania series, with players leaping across platforms, exploring unfamiliar territory, solving puzzles, and using weapons to defeat enemies. Unlike previous versions of Cave Story, the characters, environments, and enemies in this entry are rendered in 3D polygons, with the handheld's 3D slider used to give the illusion of depth to the visuals.

Good, however, better on other platforms
Cave Story is a must play, you can get it on just about any platform out there. I recommend getting it on other consoles however, the 3D modeled gameplay is a little ugly and hard to see around things due to the angle of the camera at times. Pixel art is the original look and works the best.

You will not find this in your local Gamestop.
An early release for the 3DS, Cave Story 3D was unusual and I have yet to see one sitting in a used game section of my local stores. It has a good story, a bit dark and sad even, simple game play, and difficulty that has a steady incline as the game progresses. This title is a must own. The original was released on PC in Japan and this is essentially a graphics overhaul to a game the majority of the gaming community outside of Japan have never seen.
