The Dragon Quest series is one of the goofiest yet most enjoyable role-playing institutions in existence and this title is no exception. The story is a bit hokey (even by Dragon Quest standards), but no more than you would expect to find in any Pokémon game, which is another series I'm fond of. Even though Pokémon inspired the Monsters spin-off games they are much more Dragon Quest than Pokémon so don't expect anything like a Pokémon adventure. If you like classic RPG-style gameplay with an enjoyable and very deep twist, this is a great title to keep you busy for hundreds of hours until DQM:J3 or DQXI is finally released in the West.
