Well first off its a good deal bundle with 3 games in one package with a better price than buying the games separately. "The Orange Box" is all fps so don't touch the game unless you like shooting people in first person view. The first game on this is Half-Life 2 which is set in a futuristic setting with humans being transported to a place of no way of leaving unless of course your the hero. Half-Life 2 is just an fps where you, Doctor Freeman explore a world of danger but its not free-roam like fable/GTA or anything. Besides shooting only, there are puzzles, interactive obstacles, and driving vehicles for certain parts. Haven't played Half-Life 2(Part 2 yet). Onto the next game, it's called "Portal" which is a fun game if you like figuring out a puzzle. Basically your a woman who wakes up in a huge building with no human contact and only a robot who talks to you, after they teach your the basics of playing. You use a gun called a portal gun used to transport objects or yourself to the spot you shot at. It's a very fun game but you might get annoyed by how long it takes to figure out the puzzles but in the end it was a fun run. Now for Team Fortress 2, sadly there is no story. It's a multiplayer game only, there are classes to choose from and no customization or level difference that would affect your characters you choose. There are 10 different characters to choose from with different uses. If you've played "Battlefield Hero", you will know what I'm taking about. After a while the game will get boring because there's not that much to do.Read full review
All I can say is wow. How the development team managed to fit 5 games onto one disc is beyond me, but even more importantly, the disc contains 5 EXCELLENT games. Half Life 2 is one of the most revolutionary First Person Shooters ever created. Having this game alone on one disc is worth buying. The game holds an excellent replay value and I could imagine myself playing it multiple times through as time goes on. The gravity-gun is also one of the best weapons ever put into a game and is revolutionary in itself. The two extensions of the game, Episodes One and Two, are also great, however short, extensions onto an already outstanding game. Portal is perhaps the most entertaining and amazing game I have ever played in my life. Just even considering how they managed to make such a technologically marvelous game is beyond me, but the product is simply mind blowing. I would recommend this game by itself to anybody who is willing to use their brain a little bit while playing a video game. The game is VERY funny, and tons of fun. Team Fortress 2 has introduced me to a whole new level of a multiplayer experience. The game is consisting of 9 distinct classes (each of which have their own downfalls and perks) that must be utilized effectively to win a match. Gametypes are more objective based, such as capture the flag and territory control, rather than standard Team Deathmatches. Though this concept has turned off many players, it was a good choice on the part of the developers, because a Team Deathmatch option would not have worked well at all. I have had more fun playing this multiplayer than I have with Call of Duty 4 or Halo 3, and that, in itself, says a lot. Each game is brilliant in it's own right, and I have never EVER seen such a great value and technological ingenuity contained in one 'Box'. I would probably even lay out $100 or more to buy this package, due to its limitless fun. If you own an XBOX360, and are old enough to play it (Half Life 2 has a few instances of gore, as well as Team Fortress. Team fortress is far more cartoonish, though.), this needs to be on your shelf.Read full review
The Orange Box is nothing new. It came out in the middle of 2008 so, I'm assuming, anyone who wanted to play this game has done it already. I became interested recently while trying to expand my limited knowledge of the video game world. When I say limited, I do not mean that I'm not a gamer. I have owned game systems and played video games for the vast majority of my life, but it has only been a select few titles which I have played with borderline religious fervor. So when I decided to branch out I decided to see what the esteemed Valve Corporation had to offer. Knowing that Half-Life, Team Fortress 2, and Portal are wildly popular among hardcore gamers, I felt the orange box was a good place to start. I cannot stand Half Life 2 and I have no interest in playing Team Fortress 2. I find the controls to be awkward and unresponsive. When you try to look around, it's almost as if there's a lag and I feel like I can never look quite where I want. After about half an hour of playing I began to experience motion sickness. It was unreal. This is in comparison to the what I believe to be the benchmark of all First Person Shooters: Halo. If Valve was trying to make an FPS that wouldn't be confused with Halo, they succeeded. And in doing so they produced a cut-rate poor quality game. Portal, on the other hand, is amazing. It's FPS style, but instead of fighting enemies, you're solving puzzles. The controls are still awkward and a bit difficult to master, but I'll forgive that since the problem solving element, combined with the creative graphics and sound effects make the game addictive. For the money (I think I paid around $18 with free shipping) I would purchase this game again just for Portal. It's that good. I know it. You know it. And the American people know it. Thank you.Read full review
I'm a self-titled "low-budget gamer" this means I don't have a whole lot of disposable income to spend on the latest releases. I often end up buying games months or occasionally years after their release dates. I had heard a lot about the orange box over the years, and how the Valve team was composed of geniuses. I've never gotten my hands on the source engine before, and the Orange Box was destined to be my first experience. The Orange Box contains five games: Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. None of these are FULL games, The Half-Life episodes are exactly that, episodic releases, sort of bite-sized chunks. And portal started as a technical demo that was only made into a game after the team saw how popular it was. I'll be absolutely honest, the only game I had time to play through was Portal, so I'm going to review the others based on hearsay, rumors, brief play times and discussions with friends. First Half-Life, this series is the building block of Valve's success. The physics engine is brilliant and realistic, but from what I've heard if you've played half-life before, it's just more of the same. But since the same is one of the most highly critically rated video game series out there, it's definitely worth checking out. Next Team Fortress2, this game started out as a modification for Quake, but now is a brand new multi-player experience. From what I've heard Team Fortress isn't kind to new players, and that it takes a while to really get into the swing of things. But once you do it's worth the time. Finally Portal; I'm gonna be a little unprofessional here by saying, OH MY GOD I LOVED PORTAL. I knew it was supposed to be good, I didn't expect it to be amazing. I only had one complaint, and that was that there wasn't enough of it, I would have loved the chance to play Portal a little longer. It's a damn fun series of portal-based puzzles with some of the most brilliant writing I've ever heard. The fact of the matter is that Portal alone makes The Orange Box worth buying. To conclude, The Orange Box is one of the best games you can play on your Xbox 360. You get five terrific games for the price of one. If you don't already have a copy go out and buy one now.Read full review
First off if you are looking for games at a really good price Ebay is the place to find it. I got this for about $36/shipped, which was a good price, for a used game that plays very well. As for the game itself, it comes at you with five games. The first three is the Half-Life Trilogy that has well done game play/storyline, easy controls and decent graphics, which continues to draw you back into the game. I've only just begun putting the hours into the game and probably not close yet to finishing Half-Life, but I am very curious to see what other environments, creatures/enemies and storyline the next two episodes have in store. Portal is a blend of puzzles and action/adventure, that will surely keep you mind thinking about how to set-up or take down a certain challenge(s). I found this game pretty amusing especially after you gone through it once, more obstacles await you in the Portal world. Team Fortress 2 is a online/system link game only, so playing this you will need to have XBOX Live or another XBOX 360. The online game play is totally addicting with cartoon like character style, crazy weapons and different maps. Hopefully they come out soon with a map pack for this. Over all very impressed with every aspect of Valve and what they have been producing. I was an avid Counter-Strike person who pwned a lot of PC gamers and now going to console its a new whole ball game, which is a challenge I relish.Read full review
