Epic's new Unreal Engine 3 is nothing short of breathtaking. The physics, graphics and game play are just as fast paced as Unreal fans have come to expect. Now if only I could afford to upgrade my PC enough to get maximum performance! Unreal 3 is a real online gamer's game. It requires top-notch hardware and the rig I built specifically for its predecessor (Athlon 64 3500/BFG GeForce 6800GT) just barely made the minimum requirements. Fans of UT2k4 will appreciate some great enhancements to all the time wasted in moving from one node to another. A hover board can be summoned at the press of a button and players can hitch rides from other vehicles. One big criticism: the vehicles. The hellbender's secondary weapon is useless, all the vehicles with tires turn too fast and without an AVRIL or a turret, you won't have much luck against vehicles. Players with the skill to fend of mantas with a single shock rifle in UT2k4 will be disappointed. Each team in "Warfare" mode has a single power orb that can take a power node over instantly, or shield one that your team controls. This insures that one great player really can change the entire tide of battle. And that's what Unreal is all about. Screaming fast gameplay and being the best. |-|om3rRead full review
I bought this game out of respect for previous installments (lets leave out the 2k3 version of the game...) and was surprised both, in good and bad way. For cons graphics are so amazing they will blow you away. Especially on higher settings but I, myself have a 3 year old PC and am running the whole game on medium graphic settings and it runs perfectly (40 - 45fps)so I can honestly say that requirements aren't as ridiculous as of some other games out there.... The sound goes along with graphics. Especially if you have some nice surround hooked up to your PC the sounds of weapons and background music are amazing and fit perfectly (check out UT3 Soundtrack - you will get 2 and a half ours worth of music on 2 Cd's for a price of normal CD - quite a bargain) or if you are playing on some headphones with 5.1 (like myself)it will still blow you away. I was very nicely surprised that they finally included some plot for single player campaign and added some more pre-rendered movies which look amazing!! Plot stupid as it is makes you going and wanting to push forward. As a nice addition for random matches you get special cards which you can play before next match which add to the fun and most of the time you get to choose from two different game modes that will push the story so basically you play what you like more. And lets not forget about option to play through whole campaign with up to 4 players online which is quite a ride on higher difficulties. As to multiplayer feelings are both good and bad. We have Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture The Flag (with Vehicle CTF) plus new mode called Warfare. In Warfare you need to capture so called nods that lead to your opponent base making their core vulnerable, after what you can try and destroy it to win the game. As much fun as it is with all the vehicles and extra nods that add to the fun I found it to get boring after couple of hours of play. And honestly I can not believe that they still didn't make a come back of Assault... On the upside modding community is so wide that we can already see custom maps and custom modes. After a while we will be consumed with custom content from various sources not even knowing which one to try out first. And the amount of custom maps is already huge, to say the least.. Standard maps are on the other hand both, nice and lame... They fit perfectly for each of game modes and Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch maps are actually, as promised, pretty small with tight corridors and sudden drops or elevators. Some maps make return all the way from original UT like Coret. To sum up this a very solid title which already at start gives you a lot of stuff to keep you busy for months. Don't know about all ppl complaining but I patched my version right away and had no problems with it whatsoever. As a matter of fact, getting out of the game into the Windows and back is no problem at all and PC doesn't even slow down (again based on m 3 yr old Alienware system). If you liked previous UT titles you should get, eventually there is going to be a lot of custom stuff out there for you to download and if you are newbie to the series you should most definitely try it out.Read full review
While not a bad game this game lacks a few things that others like Crysis, BF-2142 offer, while fun this is not like your average FPS game in my opinion, it seems it was tried to be made "hip" "down sounding, etc, while cool in some games I found this corny. The graphics are pretty good, I was told I had to install DX 9.0c even if I had 10, well I did no such thing because my OS having all the eye candy it does depends on DX 10, so I opted not to install it like I was told I had to do, and the geme worked fine. I found one aggrivating flaw, when the game is loading & you hear that same message over & over each time you load, gets a little old fast, especially because the game is trying to deliver its sound, and loading at the same time, when it does this the intro part ships every time, it is really choppy sounding... It is not my PC, while I may not have dual core I do have a P4 3.4 EE, with the best AGP 8x based Radeon card, and the best Fatality X-Fi sound card. While I would reccomend this game for cool online CTF play, and the deathmatches, but overall if you have only enough $ for one game, and you do not have Crysis yet then get it!!! Crysis is the best game I have played to date, very impressive game!!!Read full review
I love the game. I made the mistake of not having the right pc video card in my pc, and my processor is just a little under par. I have a 256 mb nvidia card and the graphics don't come across very good at all with my current set up while playing this game. It's still playable, but not satisfactory card performance with this game. But, my 2.13 ghz intel dual core has kept up pretty good overall. So, I'd recommend at least a 512 mb card at the minimum, and have at least 2 gb of ram. The game says it performs best with the 2.4 ghz intel dual core, but you can get away with just less if needs be. I have already ordered a xfx 9800 GTX+ 512mb nvidia card, 2 more gb of ram, a 450 watt 26amp power supply, and I have my eye on a 3.0 ghz intel dual core from tigerdirect. GREAT DEALS there. Would highly recommend them for all PC's and parts. If you have played any of the unreal tournament games, you'll enjoy this one. You get the same familiar weapons, but you get the vehicles which make the gameplay really fun. I'd compare this game to the Halo series. UT III is a good value for the price.Read full review
Okay, game looks great. Thing is, you have to force AA if you do not have DX10. Kinda stupid IMO. Anyways, the game crash so much, it's not even funny. How long it was released and it still crashes, that's bad. Funny thing is, most new games are doing that. 8800GTX with 22" WS can run it great with 2xAA(the way I like it to feel) with a GTX260, 4xAA is great. Again, the way I like it to feel. Of course it can do good with 8xQ or above, thing is, I like it lagfree to get best kills. I see UT2004 and it doesn't take much to run that. For this game, I just don't see why it takes that much to run this. It's an alright game. Fun factor is high. Graphics are pretty good, but most UT are. Crashfree = poor Google it, everyone has problems.. Value, well for $5-7 on ebay, it's a great deal.Read full review
