"Sevas Tra," Otep's first full-length album, is a great example of modern metal. The CD itself is part autobiographical for lead singer Otep Shamaya, who uses past experiences, such as being raped by her father and the death of her brother for inspiration for many of the tracks. I'd say about half of the album is slower paced, and more poetic, acting almost as "resting spots" between the heavier, scream-driven tracks. After listening to it numerous times, the track "Fillthee" sticks out as probably the best on the CD, with a f*cking great, menacing hook leading into it. The only reason I gave it 4/5 as opposed to 5/5 is because the heavier, faster tracks like "Fillthee," "Blood Pigs," and "Sacrilege" are noticeably better than the rest. It's still, though, a fantastic CD, and I can't wait to listen to their other stuff.Read full review
