Spawn of Possession is growing fast in the brutal technical death metal genre and it's no wonder why, they've got technical guitars with complex riffs, great drumming chops and a skillful bass playing that will match the leaders of the genre no problem. But they still keep there sense of melody in the music instead of just going all out brutal threw all 10 songs. The music is sometimes fast, sometimes brutal, and sometimes melodic and catchy. So they have a little of everything and mix it together into various parts of every song and still have good composing skills that shows they know what there doing. The vocals are pretty good too,it's standard death metal growl done well, with great vocal patterns, but it's not crazy deep; Which I like because then you can understand the lyrics a little better. The only things I can complain about is that some songs are hard to grasp on to and don't really stand out too much to make you want to hear it again and others are really easy to grasp and are quick to become your favorite of the album: In other words the album as a whole is lacking,it seems to start out strong then grows weak at the end of the album (excluding track 9).The other thing that bothers me is the hollow guitar tone,it makes the single notes sound so blunt and sharp and lacks that heavy buzz tone, which would have gave the album a better, fuller, and overall more enjoyable sound, but the chords are still heavy, which is always a good thing. Overall this is a great album for Spawn of Possession and a step forward for them.It shows that this band has great potential to become one of the leaders of the genre. If they can keep it together and keep pushing forward,as their still lacking that something that really grabs your ears.Read full review
