In A-Maze-Ing, guide a little mouse through mazes in "Cheese Hunt" to work your way through the maze, gobbling up ten randomly placed pieces of cheese before an exit appears, after which, you must leave the maze before the cats catch you, or, in "Escape Maze," to find your way out of the maze before time expires. In addition to letting you select between the two games, A-Maze-Ing lets you decide whether to play using visible or invisible mazes, and with or without mouse holes or obstacles. Mouse holes, which appear as a hole at the intersection of two walls, are shortcuts used as sanctuaries from the cats. Obstacles don't get in the way of cats, but they can hinder your maneuverability. If you don't want to game alone, you can get a friend to join in cooperative or competitive "Cheese Hunts" or "Escape Mazes." Other options include fast or slow mouse, dumb or smart cats (with four cat speeds), standard or pouncing cats (with three levels of pouncing ability), and no cats, one cat, or two cats. The manual boasts more than 5,000 game variations in all.
