This is a funny movie, but definitely a chick flick! Samantha MacKenzie (Katie Holmes), aside from being a doll, is good in this role. Her youthful exuberance is true to life and entertaining, to a degree. She portrays the exact image of an eighteen year old girl who has lived under the magnifying glass of parents in the public spotlight. She has all of this pent-up, teenage hormonal explosiveness looking for the right place to go "boom"! Going away to attend college in California is her dream. After all, it is about as far away from Washington, D.C., and her father, the President, as she can get. Now, with her head filled with dreams of boys, parties, and independence, she finds that little has changed. Her roommate is jealous of her "presence" and only makes things more difficult. Samantha finds herself in college where life should be a ball, only to be under the constant scrutiny of the Secret Service. Imagine trying to have a date under those conditions! Eventually Sam meets James Lansome (Marc Blucas). He's a really nice guy, fun to be with, and handsome. O, did I mention. . .He's also an undercover Secret Service Agent? This poor guy is really in the middle now. He not only has to be her boyfriend, which really isn't difficult at all, but he has to protect her from all harm. This works for a while, but Sam and James fall in love and now everything gets crazy. When she finds out that he is an agent, she is devastated and feels betrayed. Aside from his duties, he too is crushed. Getting things right again takes some help. This is a cute movie and will make you remember younger days and reminisce.Read full review
A fun chick-flick for a light-hearted evening of entertainment. Don't expect too fancy of acting although the acting is believable. A few moments might be have content you don't want your tween daughter to see but overall the story is fun and clean. A good father/daughter relationship story.
I've seen this many times on TV and just had to have a copy of my own. It was refreshing to watch a movie about young people falling in love without a bunch of profanity or sex in it!! I also enjoyed Michael Keaton's role as the somewhat overprotective father.
This was a really interesting movie it was nice seeing Katie Holmes showing her acting chops

First Daughter is a charming story and film. Too bad that the movie industry has forgotten how to create such.
