The first two seasons of Newsradio had some of the better episodes. (Later seasons were also really good, as the show ended right around when they wanted to.) With a rounded cast of fleshed out characters, the show offers a smarter blend of jokes & snark to suit those who enjoy a thought out storyline. This show is smarter than Seinfeld, while offering more color than Frasier or most other contemporary shows. Compared to today's primetime programming, Newsradio is hard to beat. It gives you an appreciation for the workplace, the media, and for friends. So give this one a try, and you might be surprised at how delighted you are by what you find. These three DVDs feature full-length commentary by various cast and crew for most of the episodes. Closed captioned for those who need it. Take note of the late Phil Hartman, who was handpicked for this show, but who died tragically before his career could continue to take off. As a cast member, he was one of the favorites by his fellow cast members as well as writers and crew. Special guest stars from this season include David Cross and the late John Ritter.Read full review

The series is set at WNYX, a fictional AM news radio station in New York City populated by an eccentric station owner and staff. The show began with the arrival of new news director, level-headed Dave Nelson (Dave Foley). While Dave turns out to be less naive than his youthful appearance suggests, he never fully gained control of his co-workers. The fast-paced scripts and ensemble cast combined physical humor and sight gags with smart dialogue and absurdist storylines. Plots frequently[citation needed] involved satirical takes on historical events, news stories and pop culture references appealed to a sophisticated, college-educated target audience. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NewsRadio
Take the most popular cast members of that generation's SNL and that generation's Canadian SNL (sort of), add a talented character actor, a soon to be uber-annoying media vapor before he was annoying, a trio of talented comediennes, and Joe Rogan and you end up with one of the best sitcoms of the mid-90's. From Larry Sander's Show writer (and future Flight of the Conchord's director) Paul Simms, Newsradio was one of the funniest shows on television at the time it was on. This box set includes classic episodes like Rat Funeral. I'm very happy I bought it. Severely underrated sitcom.
Newsradio is one of those shows which you just can't get enough on. It is the best show I've seen to date, adn trust me I've seen alot because I work at a Broadcasting Company and I've seen alot. Newsradio makes you laugh at everything in the show. In all 5 season not once did I not laugh at one of the jokes. Everything in the show is well tought out and well excuted. In my book, everybody needs to own Newsradio.
News Radio, especially the early seasons, was one of the smartest, funniest shows ever!
