The music of Tom Waits took years to grow on me and then one day it suddenly clicked. Now I'm in the process of collecting everything he ever recorded. Rain Dogs is an outstanding album musically and vocally. A close listen to the words proves it to be a lyrical masterpiece as well. Go ahead and take a chance on this one...I promise you'll be blown away. 5 Huge Stars.
As usual, Waits has not failed me in the creation of another brilliant, individually aesthetic album. His raspy voice cries out in this strange mixture of blues, jazz, and Louisiana creole. From the hypnotic, trance-like state of 'Clap Hands', to the Mardi Gras party atmosphere of 'Tango Till They're Sore', this album stands out in it's versatility and originality. For anyone who is a Waits fan, this is definately a keeper-though all off his albums are.
