My dog was having problems with inflamed ears. He has allergies, but I try not to give him meds (oral steroids) unless absolutely necessary. We had Mometamax, but the reviews of dogs going deaf (!) scared me. So I bought this to try. I did not fill the ears completely, but put it directly on the outer area which was inflamed (the vet pointed out how the ear gets bumpy). I did it for 7 nights. He definitely had a reduction of scratching in his ears and it has continued to be less after I have discontinued use. I would use this product again in a heartbeat. The downside is the excess kind of clumps up on the ear hair (on the flap and down beneath the canal).

Most dogs will have a yeast infection in their ears at some point, and for the long eared dogs, it can be a chronic problem. You can pay for endless vet visits and you'll be given Otomax which is a prescription only treatment and it does work. The dangers of permanent hearing loss are a side effect of long term usage. It is also very expensive. Zymox is better. I have used both and Zymox is as easy as pie. You just fill the ear canal and rub. Let your dog shake the excess out and wipe the excess off. NO CLEANING! Zymox works with the waxy black goo to equalize the yeast and after one week of twice a day treatments, your dog will be out of agony and the head shaking, nauseating odor is gone. I use it once every couple of weeks just as a preventative as their is no tolerance build up with use. No prescription, no incredible expense, no dangerous medication, no brainer... it is the answer.Read full review

My Mini-mutt, a 12 pound ShihTzu / Poodle mix was experiencing a nasty ear infection (one ear only). The same was happening to two similar breed dogs of friends. Friends took their dogs to the vet, and by the time they were on the road to recovery, had spent over $300 each. I researched the treatment provided by the vets (Packing a wax like combination of meds in each ear - to stay in their ears for two weeks. If not cleared up, repeat the process for an additional two weeks - at additional cost, I might add), and happened upon Zymox as a possible alternative. Within 7 days Sophie's ear was completely clear, and she was back to her old self. I purchased the 4oz. bottle in case it became a long term treatment. In retrospect, the 1.25oz bottle would have been more than adequate for several rounds of treatment of several dogs if necessary. I am thrilled this worked so beautifully and so quickly. My friends are still struggling with their dogs ear infections. Read full review

I bought this because I read a review from a vet's assistant that claimed they had tried everything for their dog's ears ( scratching, bleeding, red, sore) and nothing worked until she tried this. Same with us. Our vet gave us this and that, we tried medication from the local farm store. Nothing worked. This worked. In two days our dogs were improving. We followed the instructions to the T. The ears start ozzing black stuff, but don't clean them until they are healed. Then start an ear wash regement. It's so nice to be able to rub our dogs ears without them wrenching in pain.

My cocker spaniel never gets enough air flow to her ears for proper health. This Zymox enzyme clears up any yeast infections, and on a general basis--using a few drops weekly--keeps her ears very clean and itch free. The best part is NO Cleansing! You put the drops in and the enzymes keep her ears clean. Nothing to wash or rinse out! I highly recommend.
