The Dyson's all have better suction. I did not like the smaller head at first because I have tile floors and would like a larger sweeping head. I have come to like the smaller head now because it can get into many more places. It is great buy except for three things. It is costly, power control should be on handle, and the body is not stable and tips over a lot. The wind up cord is great. I have trouble with my filters on my upright but so far not on this one.

The head is to small , on a full charge I can't vacuum all of my carpet, on three bedroom house, I can get the living room and hall and half of one bedroom, and that is maybe, it has good suction, but way to much money for something you charge, and won't last long, I sent it back, and bought a shark rocket up right, corded, $150 cheaper and much better , great suction,

This Dyson Canister Vacuum does a great job of picking up cat, bird and dog hair/feathers. The pros and cons of the vacuum are as follows: Light weight and easy to carry The chord could be longer (minor) Canister topples onto side too easily when moving over rough terrain or when rounding a corner wall. This is probably due to the vacuums light weight. Suction GREAT Cost much better for reconditioned vs. "New" Picks up dirt, hair, feathers, dry cat/bird food easily. Works well on carpet, wood and tile floors. Difficult to affix vacuum wand to canister for storage. Works okay with carpet cleaner attachment but not at all with the hard floors attachment.
I originally had the DC39 that was ideal for a larger house with dogs. Never had an issue with it and it did a superb job. However, when they say Compact, they mean Compact. Everything about this system is half the size of the full size system I had. Canister, vacuum head, power cord, and vacuum hose. The system still runs great, but it is much more suited for a smaller living space.

It could benefit from a bigger dust container. I use it to pick up hair from a shedding German Shepherd. To empty the canister, I must stick my hands inside to get some of the hair. Occasionally, I must also use an implement to get what I can't reach. A redesign to fix the foregoing seems necessary for a 5 star rating
