To start this review off I'm going to give you the typical four . 1- The reason i bought the Dyson dc17 was because i had one of those terrible vacuums with a bag that wouldn't stay where it should in it, and it was a belt burning machine 2- What I like most about this machine is that it revives your carpet. You don't realize how much stuff your old vacuum didn't get until this one does. The ease of emptying the canister is nice too. The option of shutting off the brush is a good addition to any vacuum 3- There are a few things that I don't like about this vacuum is that the wand/handle doesn't have very good suction while connected, once you disconnect it and use just the hose its okay. The other thing i don't like about it is that while vacuuming if there are any large particles on the floor it will push them around until you get just the right angle 4- Overall i would buy the product again To finish off the review I'm going to give a bit of insight of my own about the product. Its nicely built, very sleek and doesn't take up very much room while being stored. The reusable filter is very cost efficient but to thoroughly clean the canister is a bit of a pain. All in all its a very good vacuum. I hope this helped.Read full review
I like my Dyson D17 but I don't love it as much as everyone else. We recently moved to a newer home with all carpet and our pug that sheds daily. Our previous home had all hardwood floors and did not require much vacuuming so for that house we bought a basic Hoover vac for $100. That vac did such a good job. For our newer home I wanted a good vac and heard so many great things about dyson vacs. I like the vac but not the price I paid for it because my Hoover does a good job. I prefer to use it sometimes more than the dyson especially with small jobs or when needing the attachments. I also don't think it picks up as well as I expected. I am not disappointed just not happy with the price for the job.
I chose the DC17 model because it had a longer cord and bigger canister (I found it odd that Dyson would create newer models with shorter cords and smaller canisters). The suction was good, but not unlike other vacuums I've owned. One of the things I did not like, however, was that I couldn't tilt the handle back to raise the vacuum over throw rugs. When you tilt the vacuum, the handle just tilts further back. Therefore, I had to pick up the vacuum and set it on the throw rug. Also, the lever to tilt the vacuum handle back is on the front of the vacuum, which was very inconvenient. And, despite trying to adjust the setting, the brush left deep grooves in my carpet that looked like a racetrack. I called the company and they said this is normal--they said if I turned the brush off, it would still clean, but not leave the marks. However, this was not the case at all--it didn't pick up anything without the brush on. It was also very bulky in front, so I couldn't go under the least bit of furniture. Most vacuums are flatter in front so I could at least inch them under furniture a bit. Also, I have many throw rugs in my house and had to use the attachment to vacuum them which caused back strain from having to bend so much. All the aforementioned cons (not to mention Dyson's high pricetag) outweighed the one pro (which was good suction), so I returned it. I purchased a Hoover Pet Rewind instead for $109 and love it. I also had a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser which was also good (until I broke it accidentally!). I wouldn't waste my money on a Dyson again.Read full review
The Dyson has a reputation for being one of, if not the best of it's kind. My purchase was to find out if it would 'live up' to it's name. It's name has come to mean quality & it certainly has done that for this household. It has put my other 2 vacuums (one is lightweight & practically new) in the shade. It has tremendous power and sweeps up everything including cat and dog hair with a single sweep. It's great not having to go back & forth over the same area numerous times (cuts down of electricity as well). It maneuvers like a dream (not like so many you have to struggle with to do what should be a simple job). The down side - it's heavy (about 20lbs) - other than that I have only praise & extreme satisfaction.
Don't buy a new vacuum cleaner...buy one of these, and buy it from this company. It was "refurbished", so I was cautious. When it arrived I was so thrilled! Barely a nick on it, packaged so carefully and professionally it may as well have been new. It was only missing the original box and manual. I opted for the heavy-duty turbine attachment (you have to ask for that) and that was refurbished as well. But, the on-board attachments are all brand new!! The company doesn't mention that on ebay, but I called and told them they should include that fact. Oh, I talked to "Rod", a couple of times. He's awesome!! Very knowledgable and patient. This machine is so powerful. They're not kidding when they say it will pull the nap on the carpet right up. It's not heavy, buy it's heavy-duty. Very user-friendly and super cool looking! This is easily one of the best purchases I've made in the last ten years!Read full review
