The mintage of both 1964 issues were enormous, but the coins are not that common in Gem condition. They are average rarity for the era and less common than some of the S mints of the 1940s and 1950s. The 1964 is slightly rarer than the 1964-D.
These harken back to a much different time in history (my favorite subject). Even as circulated coins, they bring back good and bad times. Look up 1932 in history, just following the Great Depression, then think of 1962, the Cuban missile crisis. A low point as well for a time until JFK turned it around. And every year in between, Truman, Eisenhower, of course FDR. It's great fun!
