The Death Gate Cycle series as a whole is one of the most imaginative series I have ever read. In Fire Sea the series continues with the anti-hero Haplo adventuring to a world where the people exist on the inside of the planet in a realm of lava and stone. The world has few 'living' inhabitants and those who have passed away are brought back to life immediately upon their death to serve their families for centuries. The ramifications of what the living have done are not apparent to the inhabitants and what those ramifications are are appalling as the are revealed! The authors makes the world seem like a place that could exist with exemplary description and imagination. I think the first four books and the separate 4 realms are arguably some of the most inventive realms ever created in the fantasy genre. Do yourself a favor and read the series! The perceptions of good and evil based on different characters paradigms is one of the best parts of the series and of this book.Read full review
