This essential little piece of equipment is one of the first things you need to invest in if you tinker with electronics. Along with the marvels of miniaturization comes increased vulnerability to damage from electrical sparks caused by static electricity. A grounding strap shunts those charges safely away before they can cause problems. This is particularly useful in the summer, with the dry air caused by air conditioning - or if you have fur babies: mine sometimes like to sit in my lap and "supervise" while I'm working. (That fur is a static magnet.) There are variations on this product sold without a ground strap but I don't recommend them. The ground strap is essential to bleed off charge quickly. You can usually find SOMETHING with a good earth ground to connect it to - a nearby pipe or conduit, or an adapter for your power plug that breaks out the ground to a separate wire.Read full review

Built my first Battleship, and never sparked it once, the band is comfortable until it gets in the way, but I can live with that. It's about 6 feet long so you can go far enough without detaching. It's barely noticeable when you're working. And for the price, you save a lot more in the long run.

Was worth every penny to buy this. Feel satisfied knowing I won't fry any computer components when I'm working on my PC.

I use this strap with my antistatic mat, the wrist strap and bonding cord of good quality and it's good to know your microchips are protected while you work.
