The new design is a big improvement. When a fish is on, you don't want to worry about losing your rod holder. My rod holders loosened up with use and they would tend to spin out while a fish was hooked up. The lock down stays put.

These are great mounts and a big improvement over the original 241, although this is close to the cheapest price for the 241L (locking) it still seams expensive. I have two fishing boats set up for electronics, anchor lock, lights, rod holders etc,,, one: 12' w/6hp 4stroke aluminum on a trailer, the other: 16' w 5hp 2 stroke Inflatable that rolls up and i take camping,, both boats are set up with their own mounts and I just switch the implements back and forth. saved me a lot of $ overall but still have $200 invested just in mounts. Oh well, I'm fishing, what else matters

These are nice because you don't have to worry about the holder popping out of place. Plenty strong for boards but I wouldn't trust them for dipseys. They work well but dipseys put a lot of strain on them. I use them for walleye trolling as well as salmon.

Must have if you use a Scotty rod holder, especially if it's the Orca rod holders!

The locking bracket is way more secure than the twist and turn
