We use several 1/2 square drive impacts, so this makes sense for those times I need more screw guns. It makes the square drive more versatile. If I'm working on a project where I need different tips, i can have multiple tools, each with it's own tip. I put one in each square drive kit so if I'm on the job and need to put in a screw I can without running to the truck for a screw gun. The down side is it makes the tool longer, there is some wobble, and my square drive impacts turn slower than the 1/4 inch hex drive tools. That said, this little attachment is very well made and i am very happy with it.

This stays with my impact sockets to use with an 18V impact that goes everywhere I go. It securely locks in 1/4" drive bits with the recess in them. I keep a small kit of impact 1/4" bits so I can use one tool for pretty much whatever comes along. Deck screws to lug nuts, I'm ready to roll.

This 1/2 square to 1/4 adapter is of the high quality you expect from Dewalt. It fits firmly on the anvil with no side to side play. It is a quick change adapter and holds the bits firmly. There is less wobble of the bit on the impact wrench compared to an impact driver. The release mechanism is very smooth. I use the adapter on my Dewalt DCF900 impact wrench. This adapter gives me a wider utilization of my 1/4 inch accessories. All I need to determine now is when is it appropriate to shoot a mouse with an elephant gun.

Well made, seems heavy duty, should take a beating. I haven't actually used it yet but good buy 😁
