Arthur C. Clark made this the bar to reach with this novel written in the early 50's. It starts off fast and picks up from there. The ending is not seen until you read it and it puts the story all together but different than expected. It's not the standard aliens invade earth but rather they come to help mankind. Thus begins the golden age of mankind. The book is much more clear than the movie.

Read this decades ago as a pt Preteen and young adult. Could not stand reading it again. A depressing view of humankind. A nihilistic view of religion and the purpose of our existence. Quite depressing. Science and the collective society.

I read the book back in high school, and I think they did a great job for the money. I mean their budget, not my money. Only A.C.C. can compete with Asimov.
