This is a wonderful book about the history of American cooking, a cookbook and history book all in one. I actually won this auction for a friend (I already have the book) who is enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America. She and her husband own a Tapas restaurant, and she is a great cook in the Spain, Mexico, Central and South American traditions, but I knew that she would enjoy a summation of U.S. cooking through the years. Jean Anderson is great; my daughter and I met her right after the book came out, and the time she spent gathering the info, the breadth and importance of the recipes chosen to represent the century, are simply amazing. Even if you never actually cook these retro recipes, this is one book that will be a conversation piece to anyone who looks at it!
The American Century Cookbook not only has recipes that you've searched and searched for, there is a ton of history to go along with them. Once you start reading, it'll be hard not to finish! If you love history, and you love the Lime Jell-O Salad your grandmother made for Easter dinner, this cookbook is for you! Jean Anderson is an award-winning cookbook author, and this book is no exception!
This is a delightful cookbook that is as much about the history of an item as it is the recipe. I was looking for a specific recipe my mother made when I was growing up and originally got this out of the public library system. I found myself reading every single item, fascinated with the information provided. At the same time discovering more recipes that I remembered! I have purchased this particular book for my mother and two sisters, and other friends who love cooking. Everyone has been excited to receive this and you will too.
Perfect, thanks!
