Zingerman's Guide to Good Eating: how to Choose the Best Bread, Cheese, Olive Oil . . . . is a terrific resource. I found a great recipe for a chocolate and sourdough treat for a friend who loves chocolate and sourdough bread. Great book with terrific resources. Thank you, Zingerman's. I have bought treats for friends as well as myself from Zingerman's through the years. Everything arrives fresh and delicious.

You need this book with your cookbooks! It gives advice on how to choose the best cheese, bread, olive oil, herbs, even chocolates for your own specific needs and tastes. The author gives histories of these foods, where to find them, how to prepare them, you name it. He also includes special recipes too.
This book is awesome and even though it is about 10 years old, it is still current! It is funny and informative and has some great recipe ideas in it! Ironically, last time I was in Ann Arbor, I could not get into Zingerman's because the line was so long! I ended up across the street at a fish market, bought a whole red snapper, then at home I baked the fish in kosher course salt as recommended in the book! Lots of great ideas...have fun!
The material contained in this book about products and how to find and distinguish among the best ones is good. The book is well written with extensive background information on gourmet items. The recipes that are in it are very simplistic and I would have preferred some with more creative distinction.
This is a stellar book with fascinating information. Ari Weinzweig is a master... great insight and written in a fun and down to earth fashion so that it's easy to digest.
