About this product

Product Information

How do you know if you've found "the one"? Can you really love the one you're with when you can't forget "the one who got away"? Emily Giffin, author of the "New York Times" bestselling novels "Something Borrowed," "Something Blue," and "Baby Proof," poses these questions--and many more--with her highly anticipated, thought-provoking new novel "Love the One You're With," Ellen and Andy's first year of marriage doesn't just "seem" perfect, it is perfect. There is no question how deep their devotion is, and how naturally they bring out the best in each other. But one fateful afternoon, Ellen runs into Leo for the first time in eight years. Leo, the one who brought out the worst in her. Leo, the one who left her heartbroken with no explanation. Leo, the one she could never quite forget. When his reappearance ignites long-dormant emotions, Ellen begins to question whether the life she's living is the one she's meant to live. At once heartbreaking and funny, "Love the One You're With" is a tale of lost loves and found fortunes--and will resonate with anyone who has ever wondered "what if,"

"Giffin's fluid storytelling and appealing characters give her novels a warm, inviting air, and her fourth is no exception . . . Giffin's snappy prose makes (her heroine) Ellen's dilemma compelling, once again proving she's at the top of the chick-lit pack." -- Booklist "Giffin delivers another relatable and multifaceted heroine who may behave unexpectedly but will ultimately find her true path. Sure to be a hit with the New York Times bestselling author's many fans . . ." -- Library Journal "Giffin's talent lies in taking relatable situations and injecting with enough wit and suspense to make them feel fresh. The cat-and-mouse game between Ellen and Leo lights up these pages, their flirtation as dangerously addictive as a high-speed car chase. The ending isn't explosive, but what Ellen learns is quietly thrilling: Sometimes, you have to do whatever it taks to be with the one you love." -- People "Though it's easy to resent [Ellen] for taking [her] ideal life for granted, Giffin's vivid depictions of Ellen's steamy past with Leo help you commiserate with this realistically insecure woman." -- Entertainment Weekly, "Giffin's fluid storytelling and appealing characters give her novels a warm, inviting air, and her fourth is no exception . . . • LOVE THE ONE YOU'RE WITH Hardcover 2008

Ellen Graham is married to Andy, who is her best friend's brother. She feels she has the perfect relationship and will be happy forever after. But one unpredictable afternoon, she runs into her ex-boyfriend, Leo, who she hasn't laid eyes on in 8 years. Despite Ellen's love for her husband, she begins to wonder an age old question whether she's living the life she was meant to have. I think the book points out that we all question at times whether we are with the right person, or have the life we really want....nothing is perfect, but we think there is a small chance it could have been better. The old adage of the grass being greener on the other side.....it never really is. Ellen and most of the other characters are stereotypical of what you'd expect in this story but it is still well ...

  • Too much thinking, not enough action

I adore Emily Giffin and was highly anticipating this book. A good read, though it went a little deep into the thought process for me. Ellen is married to the southern gentleman, perfect husband, Andy, also the brother to her college roommate-turned-best-friend, Margot. Ellen has a major chip on her shoulder and isn't over her mother's death from when she was young. She has an abrasive older sister. Ellen is from Pittsburgh, Andy and Margot from Atlanta, and she lives in New York City. She is a photographer and Andy is a lawyer. Ellen is not over her ex-boyfriend, Leo. She and Leo had a turbulent relationship. Andy wants to move to Atlanta to be near his family. Ellen struggles with her marriage (and I agree with her sister when she admonishes her for her ambivalence towards her cushy ...

  • Emily Giffin does it again!!!

I fell in love with this author with "Something Borrowed", and she has not let me down since. She pulls you right in to the story with relatable characters, and witty commentary. And when the story is over, you're sad, but in a good way. I feel like I've spent the weekend with a good friend that I hate to see go. I could be any of the women in her stories. And with "Love The One You're With", I swear she's been in my diary. I've certainly had a "Leo" in my life. Love love loved it!!!

  • Appropriate Title

Excellent story, love this writer. So far have loved all the books she has written. You will get totally engrossed in her characters and root for them. Although you may not agree with everything they do you will understand why they do the things they do and eventually you will be in agreement with their decisions. I can't wait for her next book. The author should definitely continue her career in writing because she has a true calling.

  • Good read

I loved how Ann Brashares took a more adult approach with this book. Her story left the warm and fuzzy feeling that was expected from her but also allowed you to rekindle that teenage-sense of hormones in the summer relationship that left you wanted more from the last chapter. I found it hard to put the book down as with all her books. I loved the thrill and twists she put in the story as well. I would def. recommend for a short read. I chose to buy this book simply because of her reputation with her sisterhood of the traveling pants series.
