Excellent hockey game. I doubt there are very many who are considering this game who are not familiar with the series, but this is the best one yet! Graphics are excellent, to say the least. The sound is amazing, if you have your system hooked up to a surround sound, it is really no different from watching an actual game (audio wise). It has new features that have not been included in previous versions, but to me, the biggest difference is how much they improved the functions that were added in the last few years (fighting for the puck along the boards is greatly improved, for example). You still get all the normal gameplay and action of the 2k series. There are some excellent choices are far as game type. You can go with the season, playoff tree, be a gm (Franchise), single game, or shootout. There is also the "Be a Pro" mode, which is very similar to Superstar mode in Madden, but IMO, is a much funner experience in hockey than it is in football. They also have added an online team, which is very similar to (sorry for so many Madden analogies) the "Ultimate Team" on Madden. All in all, a excellent, very entertaining game. If you are a hockey fan, or a sports game fan in general, this game is definitely worth picking up.Read full review
I tend to wait two years between buying the NHL games as usually it's just some minor changes to the game. This year though, there is so much packed in and improved that it is definitely worth the purchase. The game play is much improved, the face-offs are revamped and adding in real time physics really adds a lot more realism to the game. The game seems more refined and better looking and is edging so close to feeling like an actual hockey game. Plus with the addition of the CHL, hardcore fans will really enjoy that. The modes are much better, Be a GM has been really improved with RFA's, trades and prospects though it still contains a few bugs that can get annoying. Be a pro still feels weak offline but the EASHL is still great. The addition of Hockey Ultimate Team is very addictive and can waste a lot of hours without knowing it. All in all it's a much improved game and well worth the purchase.Read full review
This easily is one of the best hockey franchises out there, and it continues to deliver with great experiences every time. This year's iteration is no different. Pros: -Good physics engine -Easy for a non-gamer to pick up and have fun with Cons: -Some features (i.e. Hockey Ultimate Team) seem to be complicated just for the sake of being complicated and are much more difficult to get into. -Sometimes the online play can get very laggy.
Amazing game, graphics and gameplay are up from nhl 10. Overall a really fun game to play. Very few complaints, gameplay is much more realistic, for example, checking is much more life-like, celebrations when you score add some fun to it, face-offs are so so so much better, and the game has improved greatly. Very few setbacks except for the fact that the online connection can be unreliable, this is not a major problem but it takes a long time to connect to other players online and i feel this was better last year. Overall,m incredibly fun game!
