How refreshing! A romantic comedy where the obstacle to the main characters' marriage is realistic and honest. Stacie falls in love with Jud at first sight; Jud finds Stacie attractive but doesn't want to jump into marriage with an out-of-town girl he has only known a week. Nobody is cross-dressing, pretending to be a millionaire, etc. Modern viewers may wonder what all the fuss is about; Stacie's reputation is ruined, and parents pull their kids out of her dance school, because she is seen kissing Jud in public. In the 1950s, that would have been enough to label an unmarried girl a bad influence on children, even if nothing else happened (and, in this movie, it didn't). Stacie's supportive parents and the realistically awkward dancing school kids add further charm to this nostalgic story.
