These are by far the best headphones I've ever listened (to) music through. I've gone through many headphones in my life, and before this set, thought my Sony and JVC HP's were "It". Not even close. These Grado Labs HP's have a beautiful clarity that most if not all headphones, lack. The clarity defines the mids, but not oper-powered by Bass response which seem to be key features in other headphones that most people favor. Fair to say, these phones are "open back" which means that the sound bleeds out while you wear the headset over your ears. That just means that if you play your music loud, as I tend to do, the people around you will be able to hear your music. These aren't meant to be played loud if you're traveling in public transportation like a bus. But the quality is there, and the quality is very hard to beat. These Prestige Series HP's are Grado's entry level product as they are their least expensive headphones averaging at around $100 or so. I'm very happy with mine, and haven't gone back to my other headphones except for other activities like exercising, walking, running as I don't know how these would hold up in those type of activities since the material is vinyl and sponge foam-like material for the ear cushions. Frankly, I believe these are designed more for the relaxing, light to no activity, nonchalant lifestyle when out and about, or just lounging. I have other headsets, including a wireless one from LG that pairs with my G3 perfectly for those activities without the worry about them being damaged by sweat over the ear cushioning, or even getting inside the "open back" speaker area, which COULD happen. How they would do in the rain is unknown to me at this time, but I think that could be Googled. However, given all the above facts, I LOVE these headphones and use them for both my music listening, and for my guitar practice time via my ipad, amplification apps, and irig2, and peaveylink 2 connectors. They seem perfect for that application as a high quality studio monitors and can be used in both amp/app settings in Headphone, or Speaker settings (Yes, I've actually been able to hear the music through the open-back like mini tablet speakers after having read someone else's review who did the same thing) and my guitar comes through quite beautifully. As far as music goes, I listen to mainly Progressive Rock Rock, Metal, Rock, and classical music and it all translates beautiful and natural without being artificially boosted by unnecessary extra bass which to me bottoms out music. The sound is rich, simulates an open live environment as most music should. As far as pop, hip hop, rap goes on these, I haven't a clue nor reference point as I don't listen to the genre's other than what I listed. I can only say that some pop like Prince will shine, while most rap might sound "Medium-to-light" if that make any sense. They're awesome. A little about the construction: The part that rests over your head is vinyl with a narrow metal band inside which is flexible. The speakers look boutique and like they may have been designed by a Dark Knight with that slightly Minimalist spartan-like look. The cord is the heaviest I've ever seen in ANY headphone set other than the old style "windy" ones, and is pretty heavy, but very durable and long. The look is "cool" and unique. These definitely stand out as premium to those audiophiles in the know, and the Prestige title leaves little doubt about these headsets. I'm happy with these.Read full review

This is the very early version of SR60 I got . These are the best SR60 I ever had in terms of packing /sound / build quality! It came in the White Box with Blue foam (HP1000 box replica similar to SR100/200/300) and has the early John Grado manual too! The headphones have the famous "pink" drivers and are fitted with Flat Pads (as pictured). They do sound really great and smooth with Flats instead of using S or L pads. The headband is plastic but is stitched all around (like the leather headband). The later are not and that looks more cheap imo. The cable is quite different than the later SR60s SR80s as this is more flexible (more silicone feeling) and the conductors (red-blue-white) are looking more glossy and more "transparent", overall feels better quality. The drivers are the famous "pink" ones ,they were "de-stressed" (not so precisely but they were) instead of the later ones but one thing I like to add here (and probably will dissapoint some dudes) is that the "pink" colour is a faded "black" over the years. John had the idea to paint the cheesecloth black so it will look similar to the HP1000 driver..The early Johns driver have a "gold" magnet , black glue at solder pads and a more clear diaphragm. And YES this driver (pink or not) sound more sweet, smooth and I really like it more than the later "i" driver! The cups are plastic of caurse and gives a "cheap" feeling but and again just think that other Hi-End 'phones (from other famous companies) are almost 100% made of plastic and cost much more than the SR60! Generic Thought: I noticed that at the early 90's John's Grado company was giving more attention in details of each product (packing, pads, assembly - Look early Prestige series and early Reference packing and assembly quality). By time they stopped the wooden boxes of the Reference phones with funny excuses, changed the Flat pads with S-cush and stop stitching the plastic headbands to increace their profit as the price tags remain the same! Anyway I really enjoy these phones now!Read full review

I've owned a pair of Grado SR60's for about 15 years but used them sparingly as we lived in a house with a lot of privacy and could turn up our JBL Centurys to a pretty good volume. The wife and I have downsized (empty nesters) to an apartment and found that we needed headphones, in particular, so we could listen to television in the evenings without disturbing our neighbors. I wanted to have a matched pair of headphones yet didn't want to jettison a perfectly great set that I already owned. (My 15-yr. old SR60's look and function perfectly.) Found a 2nd pair of SR60's on eBay, purchased a Behringer headphone amp and wired all three to my McIntosh C-15 preamp along with my HDTV and ATT u-verse cable box. It's a beautiful thing. Theater Dolby-style sound while not disturbing the neighbors one iota. I recommend that you do your own research. Contemporary audiophile reviewers continue to give raves about the Grado SR60's. They are simple, clean, lightweight, stand the test of time, super affordable, made in the USA and sound fantastic. I wouldn't even consider owning anything else!!Read full review

The Grado SR60 in all of its incarnations has always been a terrific product. They may be inexpensive, however, the SR60 does what all great audio products do - regardless of price. It faithfully honors the music, erring only by omission rather than commission. Highly recommended!

The Grado SR60i headphones are loud, and bassy. When they distort, I think I hear the speaker crinkle. BAD ERGONOMICS: I added a bit of foam on the front surface under the ear pad, where it contacts your ear. This way they sit flat to the side of your head and don't feel awkward, or look funny. These headphones do not live up to their reputation: they are not audiophile quality. The cord is audio-phile quality: NO MICROPHONICS. They are better then your average head phones, but their flaws our shine their virtues.
