Upgraded two Dell 1950 III servers from 2.0 GHZ Xeons to to 3.16 for $65.00 (32.50 a piece). Came with some thermal paste, but I already had some from another upgrade. These processors use LGA, Land Grid Array, so you don't have to worry about bent pins. They came in a padded envelope and each one was wrapped in an anti-static bag. All Processors were the same SLANP which I guess makes them matched. Which was nice. They don't have hyper-threading, but I don't think hyper-threading actually helps that much for my applications. I run these alongside a pair of 5670s, 12 cores running nearly the same speed give me one third more performance, which is what you would expect from 12 vs 8 cores.

A nice replacement processor. It fits well in the socket, although the indentations could be a bit better trimmed. The two pins underneath are swapped in a neat way.

This might sound strange, given that I give this product a five star review, but when I received two of these processors the didn't work. I had purchased these processors to replace a couple of X5040 dual core CPU's in a Supermicro X7DBN, which if you look at the supermicro website, quite clearly states, that these processors are supported in that motherboard. After a more than reasonable number of e-mails to Supermicro support, it became clear that no, that motherboard doesn't support quad-core processors at all. The two X5460's that I purchased now reside in a Supermicro X7DCA-i where they replaced a pair of X5355's and the combination of additional clock speed and cache has improved the machines rendering performance by 15%-20%, without any noticeable increase in heat output. If you have a dual socket 771 system with a pair of dual core Xeons in it, this can be a cheap way to get some extra life out of the system.Read full review
This product worked like a charm. Besides the cut on the sides to adapt to the LGA775, there is a very minute detail on the proper chip contact points, two of them have a microscopic swap or solder. At any rate the processor works well for the past month with normal daily use. Not even one halt or stall or blue screen or whatsoever.

I got this and it works when there is a bios update on the motherboard after installation. The price is reasonable. Got home early. I used this for the G41 combo. One of the problems is that it sometimes gets stuck.
