All is not well in the bakery. As if straight out of an I Love Lucy episode, the cake-carrying conveyer belts have gone haywire, forcing your baker to scurry around to prevent a horrible mess. The surly janitor will only clean up so many mistakes before he calls it quits and your game is over. And if that wasn't the worst of it ... you must also dodge deadly silverware and deal with dancing gingerbread men that only serve to complicate your job even further.
If you are familiar with the mid-'80s tavern arcade game Tapper, then you will understand the gameplay of Cakewalk. That game's beer has been replaced with cakes and gingerbread men, and the bartender has been replaced by a baker, but your objectives remain similar. Your baker has some abilities not available to the bartender in Tapper, namely the ability to briefly stop a conveyer belt, or in some games, speed the belt up.
There are 16 variations of Cakewalk, allowing you to select between a slow or fast baker, whether or not your baker must pause to box the cakes, the ability to speed up a conveyor belt, and the option to play with gingerbread men who dance back and forth on the belt, making them harder to catch.
Between levels, your baker can catch a cup of coffee, allowing him another "clean-up" before the janitor quits.
Cakewalk was never available in stores; it could only be ordered directly from CommaVid soon before they went out of business.
