I bought this game because I am an avid motocross racer and enjoy playing the games. - Gameplay - The game has varying difficulties setup through bike sizes. Within each size you are allowed three options of racing the circuit to unlock more tracks, practicing in a single race or time trial mode, and a tag match for fun. The circuit mode is very realistic with a points structure synonomous with real racing circuits. Competition is realistic with only a few opponents at the front all the time unlike other racing games I have come across that have the 2nd place rider one race finish near last the following race. The size of bikes also was considerably realistic in that the lowest size (50cc) could not jump the biggest obstacles and the (125cc) middle size could do mostly all but not the giant jumps with the premier size (250cc) being able to jump all the jumps. The lap structure was peculiar in that some tracks would run 12 laps while others only 3. I'm not sure the reasoning behind this. It is also lacking a track builder making replay value less. The racing action is good overall. Dirt Trax FX also has 8 riders to choose from with all varying skills. The skills in question are: top speed, acceleration, turning, and braking. This is similar of the classic Super Mario Kart where certain characters had varying skills. This make choosing the right rider for the circuit a difficult task. The trax range from the small oval with minimal jumps to interesting combinations of figure 8s and long courses with large jumps and hazards. I think the track designs are great but feel two dimensional even with the 3d chip. The graphics and sounds are lacking. I think the graphics are behind even the games time. The riders and bikes are almost undistinguisable aside from different colored riders and bikes that were still limited in variety. The tracks lacked depth of color with one tone across most of the tracks. The races all carry a speedy beat but engine noise is distorted and not realistic, and the music changes unkowningly if you get close to a competitor. With the lacking visual effects and poor sound I rate this as 2 out of 5 stars or below average.Read full review
Nostalgia may speak strong here but I think this game is thoroughly under rated. Subjectively speaking the graphics are good and fluid for the time and technology. The gameplay is intense, you cannot stay on your laurels for half a second most of the time. The number and the variety of tracks is great. The only complaint I have with this game is that a battery to save progression and best chronos would have been so appreciated here.

This game is truely a easy game from the past. I remember playing this game in my fond past with joy, but sadly now that I try it I have to say WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! This game is basic in controls, simple really. Graphics are what you expect from SNES racing. Pretty good clean starter game for maybe a very young youngester, or someone brand new to gaming give it a try you can get the game CHEAP!
