Disney's 1940 animated classic about a sentient wooden puppet gets the small screen treatment via Disney's Pinocchio for the Nintendo Game Boy. Your job in this game is to help Pinocchio prove himself to the Blue Fairy in order to win the Badge of Truth, the Badge of Bravery and the Badge of Unselfishness. If these tasks are achieved, the Blue Fairy will grant Pinocchio his fondest wish -- to be a real boy.
Disney's Pinocchio is composed of seven perilous adventures. The first involves helping Pinocchio choose the best path to school. Honest John and Gideon will try to coerce Pinocchio into taking shortcuts, but with your help, Pinocchio will take the right road and earn the Badge of Truth.
Level two introduces Jiminy Cricket to the action. Stromboll has forced Pinocchio to dance in his marionette show, and you must help Jiminy use his umbrella to fight off moths and bugs in order to gain a good seat on the lamppost.
In the third level, Lampwick and his friends throw bricks and firecrackers at Pinocchio while chasing him through Pleasure Island. You must help our hero avoid the thrown objects and hitch a ride on some balloons. After Pinocchio flies up and away to the next stage, he'll need your help in riding a rickety old roller coaster on a track that is much in need of repair.
Next you must assist Pinocchio in escaping Pleasure Island. His primary struggle here is to knock the coachman into the water at the beginning and the end of the level. Once this has been done, the Badge of Bravery will be awarded.
The fifth level takes Pinocchio to the bottom of the sea as he searches for Monstro the whale. You can help Pinocchio pick up clams to weigh himself to the ocean floor. Sea anemones and manta rays can be used to cross the dangerous areas, and the stream of bubbles is useful for moving up and down.
Apparently, Pinocchio will eventually find Monstro, because level six takes place inside a shipwreck that is inside the giant whale. Your job here is to guide Pinocchio around the shipwreck and help him spin into crates so he can use the wood to build a fire. Crabs and spiky wood will make the crate bashing difficult. Once wood has been gathered and the fire has been lit, Monstro will sneeze everyone, including Geppetto (Pinocchio's creator), into the sea!
Lastly, you must help Pinocchio and Geppetto row their raft to safety in order to escape from Monstro. If the raft hits a big rock and breaks apart, you must assist in helping Pinocchio save Geppetto's life. If the puppet does the right thing by remembering to think of others' safety before his own, the Blue Fairy will appear and reward him with the Badge of Unselfishness, the last badge needed for puppet to become boy.
Throughout your mission to help Pinocchio achieve humanity, there are special items to collect. Hats grant extra tries, books are worth continues and wands increase strength. Book pages award special powers, such a spin move that will knock down enemies.
Should you choose to undertake this mission, remembering the following creeds will serve you well: -Always choose the path of truth -Be brave enough to stand up to the bad guys no matter what -Be selfless by helping others, even when all seems lost
