Do not be fooled by the title. This is not a scary game. Garfield's nightmare is no donuts, pizza, and the such! I purchased this game used for my daughter and thought I would try it out prior to giving it to her to make sure it worked. I did not want to give it back. This game is too cute. The colors, graphics, story line, everything is wonderful. You feel as if you have hopped inside a Garfield cartoon. As an adult I am not up on all the technology but this game is definately easy to play. You do not even need your stylus to play it. It is straight forward and not complicated. My daughter who is 14 loved the game too. I think anyone that is old enough to have a DS would be able to play this game with its simple controls. Two thumbs up.
So you know, I am an adult gamer. I was amazed how nice & colorful the graphics were. The backgrounds are pretty to look at. I've seen too many games in 2D so this game is in 3D so it was a nice change. Garfield moves gracefully. At the beginning, they tell you how to make his moves, what to do and guide you through the level, helping you to get to know the game. You collect coins, pizza and donuts for lives. You also have to beat a boss at the end of each level. There is absolutely no stylus usage in this game which is fine. Some games require it whereas this one doesn't. This game is 3D platformer like Yoshi's Island for the DS. There is only one direction he can go to. No confusion. Or maps to remember. (I have no sense of direction so this game is great for me) Just make Garfield go and collect items on the way from beginning to end of each level. My sons also like the game too. (7 and 9 yrs old) So it is great for everyone. (even for adults like me who feel like playing an relaxing game) It's not highly challenging at all. A 5 year old could do it. I haven't gone far yet but I'm loving it so far!Read full review
What a great game!!! The graphics are large, brightly colored and crisp....Garfield looks way better than he ever did in the comic strips....more 3-dimensional. The music is fun to listen to...and the game play is relatively easy (with a few challenges mixed in). You play (4 levels) as Garfield....jumping over things, crawling under things, looking for pizza slices, coins, doughnuts, secret doors. Sounds easy, but there ARE some challenges (believe me....I died MULTIPLE times before completing the levels!). I thought this game was a lot of fun and I'm an adult. My 5 year old son has been dying to try it out but I told him he could have it for Christmas. If you are planning to buy this for a younger child, you will probably need to help them with the directions and probably some of the game play. But one of the BEST things about this game is that there are checkpoints though out each level.....so if you "die" you will be sent back to the last checkpoint. If you "die" too many times, you may have to repeat that level. But you never have to start the game all over. It's a good buy :)Read full review
This is a nice little platform game for the beginning gamer who loves Garfield. I'd say it's best suited for kids about 6-8 years old, but even older kids or adults can enjoy it for a somewhat relaxing gaming experience. Graphics and sound are quite impressive for a DS game, and controls are intuitive and easy to learn. Help buttons appear along the way to explain new moves and warn of upcoming dangers. I bought it because my son enjoys Mario-type platform games but can get frustrated with difficult games made primarily for older kids. Overall I'd recommend it for any younger kid, or any Garfield fan.
My 13 year old daughter loves this game. We owned it several years ago & had lost it. Was happy to find another one for her.
