Samurai Shodown is a weapon based 2D fighting game made by SNK. It was released in late 1993 for arcades. Then released for Panasonic 3DO in 1994 with amazing results even selling many systems because of the game. The 3DO version is the best way to fully experience Samurai Shodown just like the arcade. All 12 characters including Earthquake (not on Sega Genesis/Sega CD) are playable, as well as all the uncensored blood/gruesome deaths like the arterial spray and dismemberment which was censored for the other console versions including the Neo Geo. Also the zoom camera is in the 3DO version during the fights unlike the SNES, Genesis/Sega CD versions. I have nothing really negative to say about the 3DO version. The only minor flaw is the loading time before the 1st round when starting a match which is only 8 to 9 seconds. At least it does not load during the fights (like Shang Tsung morphs did on disc format) and does not hinder the gameplay. The Sega CD suffers these flaws with disc access screens always loading, skipping BGM and the game crashing at the boss. Unlike most 3DO fighting games, this controls well using the standard 3DO controller with the 3 face buttons for slash attacks and using R for kick attacks when needed. If you own a 3DO and like fighting games then this is a must have game for your collection!Read full review
This is an arcade perfect port of the Neo Geo Arcade game. The control is exact, the graphics are identical and the sound is the same (albeit that may not be a good thing). This game is a blast to play and is easily the best port of this awesome fighting game. If you have a 3do, this is a must own.
This game came out around the same time as street fighter. This game is slow and not alot of moves you can pull off well. Mortal combat came a little afer both street fighter and samurai showdown that blew both out of the water.
