I bought this because the "real" arcade version was one of my favorite "quarter munchers" back in the 80's. This game does attempt to recreate the original "stand up" arcade version, as well as can be done on an Atari 2600. It is fast paced and challenging, but honestly the non-intuitive method of steering your fighter ship and aiming your weapon makes this game much more frustrating than challenging. In contrast, the Atari 2600 game "Star Voyager" by Imagic gives a similar "space war" scenario with much better play action. If "Star Wars: The Arcade Game" had the play action of "Star Voyager" then it would have been one of the greatest games on the Atari 2600, but unfortunately it's best attribute is as a nostalgia item to remind you of the days when Star Wars and video games were new and exciting things. For enjoyable game play you can do much better on the Atari 2600.Read full review

a more than admirable attempt to translate the awesome vector arcade game to the Atari home console. one of Parker Brothers best Atari 2600 games. I actually prefer this version over the 5200's but not the Colecovision. in a nutshell, Star Wars, is Star Wars, and its always fun with a lot of nostalgia value thrown in. pick this game up if you can!
