In this nice little pseudo-side-scrolling entry from Telesys, players man a sleek space fighter whose job is simple: shoot everything! Enemies begin appearing one at a time, and then as the game progresses many more appear at once. There's also an enemy bomber roaming the top of the screen where the player's ship can't reach it, and that's the real threat -- it's constantly dropping bombs while the player tries to draw a bead on his other opponents. Crashing into anything will cost the player a ship. Though the ground appears to scroll, Stargunner isn't, strictly speaking, a side-scroller -- if the player's ship or an enemy target disappears off the right side of the screen, it reappears on the left and vice versa. The scrolling effect is really just that; an effect with no bearing on the game. Stargunner serves as nice, tame practice ground before moving on to Defender or Stargate -- and it's actually a step above the Atari VCS Defender visually.
