Long before Konami's Super Cobra became a part of Konami Arcade Classics for the PlayStation, Parker Brothers brought the game home to the ColecoVision. In this side-scrolling shooter, you pilot a chopper over and through an 11,000 mile (11 level) obstacle course of craggy mountains, tall buildings and jagged tunnels. As you fly through the game, rockets, heavy ground artillery, flying saucers, fireballs, roof bombs and Flobbynoids (little flying square things) make your trek even more dangerous. To defend yourself against the weapons, you can fire chopper bullets and drop bombs, both of which you are given an unlimited supply. The more enemies you shoot, the higher your score; you also get points when you reach the end of a level.
At the top of the screen you'll find a mileage gauge. Every time you clear 1,000 miles, a section turns red, indicating that you've completed a level and are heading into the next. Near the bottom of the playfield you'll find a fuel gauge, which depletes itself as the game progresses. Bombing or shooting a fuel tank will partially replenish your fuel supply. You'll hear a warning sound if your tank reaches dangerously low levels.
Near the end of the eleventh and final level of the game, you'll need to swoop down and land on a dollar symbol, which represents "booty." If you manage to capture the money and reach the end of the course, you will be rewarded with a "CONGRATULATIONS," and the game will continue start over from the beginning. Unlike most games from this era, Super Cobra provides you with an unlimited number of continues.
