VALIS II is a mixed bag on the turbografx. Let's talk about the positives first. The musical selection here is great (as is the case with most TG16CD games.) The cutscenes are well animated compared to the choppy FMV games on other cdrom games of the time. The character designs are also very well done and the first two levels are a blast. Sadly that's all the game has going for it. The voice acting is awful (I personally love bad acting as I find it charming but I get why people have an issue with it. The backgrounds and colors are washed out and most stages look rather bland despite the great character designs. The gameplay is sadly the worst aspect of the game. Enemies will spawn in and hit you before you can react, your powerups don't work well and it just feels full and lazy. Get VALIS III instead it is much better.Read full review
