After purchasing what I thought was a new F.F. Tactics (it was the same one for PS, just formatted for PSP) I purchased this shooter b/c I like Sci Fi and the game box was tempting. For the most part, I enjoyed every bit of the game. Although, the alien creatures got a bit monotonous. For one thing, there could have been more of a variety of monsters to fight (just because the color of the monster changes doesn't mean that it's a different monster). Thus, as I was playing I wanted to see more difficult and complex monsters to take on as the levels progressed. In addition, there were often too many monsters to tackle. After a while it got old shooting hundreds of the same swarms of monsters over and over again. Also, there weren't many secrets bonus items, which could have most definately made the game play a bit more engaging. Nonetheless, the graphics and game play are fun enough to keep a gamer hooked once he or she turns it on. I especially liked the the random weapon upgrades the floating robot created throughout the game. Consequently, the choice of weapons to upgrade was quite prolific, which was a bonus. And, since each weapon added a unique characteristic, it was exciting to see what a new one would do. Nevertheless, throughout most of the game, I primarily stuck with the original flame thrower. It seemed to work best on a variety of the alien creatures and it could ignite creatures to continue h.p. damage. While there were some good points, the storyline could have definately used some rewriting because it was hard to follow and didn't really make much sense. And, after realizing the main character is half-alien, I was kind of disillusioned. Indeed, after upgrading the last available armor level, the main character even began to look alien. To finish I must point out that the game gives a great playing length, 40 levels, which kept going and going! That was an unexpected, but nice surprise. After all, the only FAQ I could find online went up to only level 12. Therefore, as 13, 14, 15, came on I was happy to keep playing... All in all, a good, fresh, new (the original was released over 20 years ago), fun game with cool weapons and game control. A good choice for any PSP owner.Read full review
I was looking for a fast paced action/sci-fi game with formidable opponents and lots of weapons. This game had all of that and more. Whats really nice is the upgrade system is constantly evolving throughout the entire game. The only thing I wasn't too keen on was the top/down camera view. I think there should have been a shoulder view added as well. All in all though, This game ranks up there with the best action games out there in terms of good graphics, excellent sound, good action, and all out shoot-em up,blow- em up wham, blam, slam, thank you, ma'am! Have fun!
