a basic fps, with a few elemental resistance upgrades, some weapon upgrades, and no 3rd person option or melee attacks. Story is told without words, but basically the toa were captured and demasked, so you, a matoran, become a toa. you start with a little gun, and work through each region of the island (jungle, volcano, tunnels etc) There are a handful of levels per enviornment; each first level gives you a toa gun (no swords or anything) of that element, the next few levels upgrade that weapon (same weapon but stronger) and the last level of that element/environment gets you that "elemental" mask. the masks are odd; the red one lets you touch lava without dying, the blue one lets you breathe water, the green one is supposed to let you glide but I can't figure out how, and idk what the others do, but nothing special like shields or invisibility. HOWEVER, your starting mask, if you collect enough gears/coins (they're laying around everywhere) you can use for 10 or so seconds to resist damage and increase firepower. You can use the starting mask no matter what gun you're holding, but the other masks only work one at a time, green mask w/green gun, red/red, etc the weapons are all guns, but vary a little; one acts like a machine gun, one acts like a shotgun, one like a rocket launcher, one like a freeze ray, and one like an arc-caster and I think one like a grenade launcher. There are mixed old enemies throughout the levels, like every bionicle bad-guy ever up to piraka. They get bigger or more numerous as the levels progress, and I think there's a way to make the earlier levels harder, though I don't know if this is earned or a permanent option. The piraka at the end of each region seem easy, you generally find a corner to hide behind where you can shoot them but their shots are stopped (they aim center mass, so if you hide your center you can shoot around corners safely) along the way you find letter stones that you can submit for "cheat" modes, such as like tiny enemies, big heads, invulnerability, and infinite ammo. about half of these you need the mask of another region to get to (stone is underwater or behind lava, but in the jungle) so you have to replay levels once you have the masks. but you often get a lot of the same letter and none of the ones you need. the bad: 1;I wish the bad guys were more intelligent, to complicate the gameplay a little more at least on boss levels. 2; I also wish you could do a 3rd person view, so you can see the bionicle you're playing as, and how his body changes when he switches elements/masks/weapons (basically, including the player there are no toa SEEN in the game besides cutscenes, and that bugs me) 3; I wish there were melee attacks so I could see some flaming swords. 4;there's barely a story, and no character development whatsoever 5; I wish the stone letters you had the least of were the ones that spawned, or at least that the letters spawned evenly 6;the aiming crosshair isn't perfect, but you get used to it.. kinda 7;there are no puzzles, the game is a straight line. the good; 1;it's nice to see the old bad guys again like rakshi, bohrok, those fly things, the scorpion things, the bull and the bear, the cops and the spiders, even if their cooperation isn't explained 2;the guns are fun, esp when upgraded 3;the masks are fun, better than no masks 4;the music is pretty cool 5;the environments, although simple, are pretty 6;cheats are fun 7;game is cheap!Read full review
This was purchased for my 10 year old grandson so in his words I will tell you his review as dictated to me.." I liked how you could unlock new weapons, and the further the level, the stronger the enemies were." Ethan liked it that the bosses were very similar to his old Bionicle action figures. " I liked how you could jump high and shoot your enemies in midair" Overall he enjoyed this DS game and thanks the previous owner for getting halfway through this game. It saved him lots of time. Thank you for letting "us " review this game!
Amazing game, well done shooting mechanic, and even more: I loved the levels and worlds there.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
My son received this for a gift the other day and has seemed to be in love with it. While it may not be a game about building Lego Bionicles at all, it does contain them in a 1st person shooter style game. He really digs it and it looks super and is easy to play on the DS.
This was a Christmas present for my youngest son who also got a DS for Christmas. Have two boys that love Bionicles and this game is fun and imaginative. So far we have not had any problems. He loves the game.
