I have been looking for this game for years ever since I traded in my SNES for a ps1 back in the late 90's. While it's not the best game in the world it's still a must for any collection.

The game is a fast RPG mixed with a slow 1st person shooter. There is not set initiative. You can't spread out & for mood attack plans. There is a lack of the talking RPG aspect. The game only has 1 set course of plot. There's a big limitation on spells. I personally think it was a big step backwards from some NES games. It is a CPU game released 4 years earlier, and shame on Capcom for not upgrading it a little bit. The controls get stuck & don't listen. The final boss is unbeatable in traditional ways - infinate HP. And way to high of a CR for the group. My biggest pet peeve is that the value of the thief in killed. All the traps & locks rely on in game items or combinations to find/figure out. And of course the ADD class choices are very limited to begin with. But if you are looking for an SNES D&D game, your stuck with this one.Read full review

In all honesty, this game probably isn't that good. The graphics are pretty bad (even for the time period it was released in) and there really isn't a whole lot of freedom of movement throughout the labyrinth. You're locked into the storyline and don't have any real options to vary form it. But, I still rate it as good. And this is probably due more to the fact that I played this game as a kid and therefore have fond memories of it. Also, as an AD&D fan, I'm obligated to like it because it does stay true to 1st Edition AD&D rules. In truth, I wouldn't recommend paying much for this game if you've never played it before, and aren't much of an AD&D fan. You'll probably get bored quick. Otherwise, it's worth a few bucks to enjoy a relatively fun RPG.
This is a good old school pc game ported onto the SNES. They really took advantage of the increased memory and processing power as the game plays much better(in the old pc version you had to keep reading through a manual not so here) and the graphics have improved. The game is compatible with the SNES mouse add-on but you don't really need it as the controls are responsive and functional without it. It was released in 1995 therefore as the title suggests follows the AD&D rule set and remains truthful to them. It's a linear game so much so that you start the game off in the dungeon and find equipment as you go. This is forgivable as this is one of the granddaddies of Role playing games today, so if it weren't for this we probably wouldn't have the RPG's we enjoy today. You have to make your own map though but that can help immerse you into the game, and after you're done you can show it off it's like a badge of honor. You can also make your own characters but you can only have a party of four. If you really need an old school AD&D fix I can't recommend this highly enough. Games like The Legend of Grimrock have attempted to copy this style but can't quite duplicate the same feel.Read full review
