To say that Dragon's Lair for the NES is terrible may be accurate, but it's not exactly fair. In truth NONE of the home versions released for this game have merited the praise the original arcade classic deserves. Even the more recent, DVD versions (which at least are, more or less, graphically identical) are still subpar because they do not randomize the different levels like the original did and they do not repeat levels in an attempt to add difficulty to the game and also check the player's memory. Nevertheless, the NES Dragon's Lair is probably the worst of all of them as it isn't even the same game - and the game that it is, is lousy. Graphically, it's better than average (for the NES) and one can tell that the licensee at least attempted to make it look good, but the gameplay is so bad it doesn't matter: the controls are ridiculously non-intuitive, slow and frustrating. You will die several times, guaranteed before you even pass the first screen (which was edited out of most arcade versions of the original game). I can't say much about the game as it progresses because I haven't played it much. Suffice it to say, the ONLY reason to own this game (and the one reason I do own it), is if you have such fond memories of the original that you must have any version of the game, no matter how terrible. If this doesn't describe your interest level in Dragon's Lair, then don't bother with this terrible, ahem, "port".Read full review
Well, I decided to buy this game after I saw a review about it. The game itself is kind of fun, but it's probably one of the worst games I've ever played in my life. The controls are very delayed, and the A-B buttons are switched, where B jumps and A throws your weapon in this game, while, traditionally, A jumps and B attacks. Even after having this game for just one night, I wish I had the nine dollars and ninety-eight cents that I bought this game with...
Horrible controls.Might like this game if only i could get over the bridge which is the very beginning of the game.

This game is legendary Hard. It has the worst lag/delayed contros I have ever seen in a NES game. Not only that but Everything kills you in one hit except the bats. It is a game of trial and error and you will die so many times. Stay away!
