- -For its time & generation, many would consider sega espn nfl 2K5 (for both platforms, ps2 & orig. xbox)overall the crown achievement, or pinnacle of ALL nfl football traditional games to that point. It still holds up in comparison to the madden generations of today, the next gen. platforms of xbox 360 & PS3. What drives this game, & makes it so special is not only the graphics and sound, which are both outstanding in their own right, but the gameplay & physics. The gameplay is highly realistic, the DB defensive back play (corners & safeties) is the best that I have ever seen for such an effort. They actually defend, (the pass) as well as the run. The wide outs have to work for the catch, & time their routes. The game flow has realistic momentum, & you can set the level(s) & quarter length as custom to closely approach a real game scenario. The franchise mode is outstanding, allowing any user to control from 1 to as many as all 32 teams. Best of all, a dedicated fan can even update all roster(s) info. to even further customize the experience & play with the players of today (2011-2013 season(s)). I cannot recommend this game enough to even the casual football fan, & best of all is/are the commentary (in-game) as well as espn's very own Chris Berman's in-game analysis & reports (the man who made nfl football as exciting as John Madden himself. The primetime music cuts which exist during menu options, & at various other points during games & highlight clips.-just check it out-THE BEST--Read full review
After 4 years, 2k5 is still the best NFL game on the market. The NFL really screwed the consumer when they inked the deal with EA sports to give them a monopoly on NFL football. 2k5 was winning the war against Madden giving EA no choice but to shell out millions upon millions to get the exclusive rights. Though there are a few glitches when you try to customize the game(ex. too many created players, too many substitutions, the announcers cannot keep up with the game play, and the challenges can sometimes be frustrating, but no more than real life football). Even with the glitches, 2k5 still has the best game play on the market with hard hitting, quick cuts, and fast speed. Hopefully the NFL will not repeat this travesty to the American public and we can all look forward to NFL 2k9.
This game is AMAZING! Even with today's next generation technology, this game is still fun, The animation is good for a PS2 game, and the gameplay is really fun. One of the best things about it is that it not only has realism, but-in my opinion-it is more fun than the super-realistic Madden next-gen series. This game has good controls, and a pick-up-and-play mentality. If this game was for PS3, it would be the best football game ever, perhaps the best sports game in history. The NFL teams are represented well, and the fields look good. The weather is fine, as well as the coaches before-game real records. The announcers do not repeat as much (and aren't as annoying) as the Madden 10 duo. In general, if your looking for a bargain, then buy this game. It is very inexpensive, and as long as you don't mind PS2 graphics it is a great deal. If you're looking for realism, then buy Madden 10 (which I too recommend) but, if you're looking for a lot of fun and replay value, than buy ESPN NFL 2K5.Read full review
Excellent game, my favorite football video game EVER. Better than all Madden games combined... They just don't make them like this anymore! Things I LOVE -In-Game Commentary, humorous and never gets old. Amazing job. -In-Game Music, ESPN did a great job with the music, awesome feel. -In-Game Gameplay, I just love playing. I play man-up defense, always at cornerback, so much fun covering recievers. Realistic gameplay. -A Lot More, it's just a great game. Get one yourself, I've been playing it for years. Real fun, take on your friends and dominate. It's a good time.
The gameplay on this game is great for being in 2004. The graphics are only alright for PS2 graphics but I've heard it's better for XBOX. Many people still play this game I have found web sites where you can update the roster. The gameplay is very smooth, sometimes a little easy and a little too fast. The gameplay in my opinion is better than Madden 10. But you can slow it down and put the difficulty up. So that's great. The presentation in this, is in a whole other level from madden to this. With ESPN in it everything seems so real. Boomers half time show, post game show and even pre game show is awesome. The only thing I have a problem with in the shows is in PS2 they don't have highlights reels just pictures of the highlights while in XBOX they have the reels. The franchise in this is REALLY good. The micro hangmen is a little hard maybe long but for all you micromanagement freaks it's great. Thankfully you can turn that off. The crib is a nice feature where you gain points in game that translate to money and you can buy things for your crib. There are many other smaller features that you will not spend as much time in but they are also pretty good. I feel like I have been missing out. The only other football game I have played with better gameplay would be madden 11. And that's 60 dollars but does not have as great presentation. For the better bang for your buck I would go with NFL 2k5.Read full review
