Virtually 1:1 identical to the arcade Frogger, Sega's first hit video game, and reportedly, the last Sega Genesis game ever officially released. As such, this was a great way to close the famous 16-bit console's extensive library. To any young kids out there who haven't played it... you take control of a happy green frog whom you guide safely across a busy freeway and a critter infested river bank, plus a raging river full of floating logs. Hop five frogs to safety, one hop at a time. It sounds simple, but it's quite challenging! Your poor little amphibian will need to use the backs of diving turtles and even crocodile heads (when the mouth is closed!) to make his way past the dangers. You're subject to a time limit in addition to the dangers of getting run over, drowned or eaten. At some point snakes show up on the river bank, and if you get carried off the screen, you lose a frog! All the while, video game renditions of various American folk tunes play in the background, reminding you why this became a classic. Old time gamers may recall that the arcade Frogger used a joystick and a vertical monitor. On the Genesis, you'll want to track down a joystick for greater authenticity even if it won't be a true "four way." The aspect ratio is compressed in order to fit a TV screen, but the graphics are bright and colorful like the arcade's and the sounds are virtually identical, with the American folk tunes and simple yet challenging and addictive gameplay. Minor differences aside, this is probably the most perfect port of the arcade game I've ever seen, aside from direct emulations. Well worth it... anyone can play! Like Pac-Man, Q-Bert and a host of other cute and fun classics, everyone should give this title a whirl.Read full review
I really love this version of Froger for any games system that I have ever played this on.The graphics on this version look ninty nine percent like the graphics on the original 1981 Frogger arcade machine and the catchy music is nearly the same as the original arcade game. I am glad there is one version out there that is so faithful to the original arcade Frogger and not a remake or a new version of this cool game. The only thing I am disapointed about is the cars don't make that zoom noise when the cars go faster after you complete the first few stages. Also from what I remember you can't select level options, check other reviews for that. Well if you are looking for an almost faithful version of Frogger, this game is worth every dime to have this, this is close as you can probably get to the original aracde game on any console that I know of.Thank You!Read full review
