I know this game is 2 years old. I've read great review about it, so I finally decided to give it a shot. What an amzing game! I wouldn't put it up there with the GTA series, but pretty damn near. Great voice over acting, great story line, and the movement and battle system feels pretty natural. I strongly recommened this games to friends, especially those that apprecuate the "gangster" film genres: Goodfellas, Godfather, etc...
It's a good game to play with a great story to it. The problem is, after it has been solved, that's all there is to it. On a fair note, I've been known to solve games like this within a few short weeks (2 weeks to a month). Don't expect to get hours of gameplay that rivals a good RPG like Skyrim or a action game like Batman: Arkham City. Still, I'm glad I waited to buy this used.
Mafia II is an excellent return of a franchise with great promise. Vito and his associates are memorable characters in a city bursting with subtle visual details and violent undertones. The story pulls no punches, neither glorifying nor demeaning the difficult lives its protagonists lead--just presenting them with brutal honesty and letting you reach your own conclusions. After the 15-or-so hours it might take you to gun through Vito's story, it's hard not to come away with the sense that there should have been more to do in this beautiful city. Yet while you might be disappointed with what Mafia II doesn't do, it's hard to be disappointed by what this excellent game does do: deliver fun shoot-outs and pockets of shocking brutality in a world you're delighted to be a part of.
