Great basketball action with an arcade twist. The NBA Jam series has never been about realistic gameplay rather fun and gimicks that can keep the novice fan interested. It's got an on-fire (allowing legal goal-tending) and hot spot (extra guaranteed points) features not included in traditional basketball games which makes it fun and enables ways to get a huge advantage to the winning team or a means to recover from a bad beat-down. It's been a while since NBA Jam has been out on a home system, and this version from 2004 is the closest you can get before the Wii version which comes out this winter. So if you can't wait to get your game on, this is it and it's available for both the PS2 and Xbox.
not the nba jam i expected but i have come to love it. searched for & purchased it after playing nba jam on my friend's xbox. i never realized they made it for ps2, so i figured i'd check it out since i spent hours playing the original in various arcades. it's different than xbox & classic arcade version in that it's 3 player instead of 2 (so there are more complex alley-oop's) & there are hot spots that can really change the outcome of the game. you can create a player & gain jam points in every game played(even in losses) to boost his abilities. so if you are having difficulty beating the computer with your current roster, you can eventually add a beast to the mix. released in 2003, so it has the roster from that era. players like young amare, 'melo & lebron as well as vets like pippen, reggie miller & sprewell. overall, a great basketball game & a must have for nba fans like me that still rock the ps2!Read full review
Game play in on spot. Game play is awesome but it’s hard to win a game

This is a must have game for all those fans from the first version of the game that came out on the Super Nintendo system. It was just a blatantly FUN game to play. The resounding sounds of BOOMSHAKALAKA! and HE'S ON FIRE! never sounded soooo good! Better graphics, better sound, more players, more teams but the fun factor is definitely intact. It is a fairly rare game for a really good price, especially considering it is an OLD game. But, now that I have played it, bringing back memories of late nights with good friends playing it endlessly on the SNES, shattering the backboards...this game is WORTH IT!
A+
