Well I'm a long time fan of local to national wrestling on tv series from about the 80's onward. WCW was a great company back in the day and not many video games was made from it that do it justice. This one is about as good as it gets unfortunately but it's not that bad... There is enough here to keep and play once in a while and brings back plenty of memorys ! James

I give this game a 3 star rating. Here are the 4 reasons why. 1. Plenty Wrestlers to choose from. They even have all their themes. But the down side is NO FEMALE WRESTLERS! What gives?! 2. Great commentary throughout the game. Play by Play is funny and great. 3. The number of matches is very limited. Only a few play modes: 1 Vs 1, 2 Vs 2, 2 Vs 1, Free 4 All, and Battle Royal. I think there is a little bit more but that about it. 3. Poor Collision Detection was one problem. The other was the controls. When you punch and kick a wrestler, many times they went through like the guy was invisible. Even when you did powerful moves, many times the characters got right up like it didn't even phase them. A skinny wrestler can take a beating like no other against a super big guy. Controls were bad as well. Every button had a purpose. The controls are very complicated to get a hold off and memorize. Smackdown games from 1 and 2 are very easy compared to this game. 4. The graphics have a lot to be desired. They all look very poor. Even the crowd is very ugly in PS1 standards. The characters are blocky in many areas. The rings look great though. Finally if your a fan of the OLD WCW, get this game. Plenty of Characters to choose from, sound is great and the commentary between announcers is wonderful. But the number of matches, Poor Hit Detection, Ugly Graphics and complicated controls make this a hard sell. I bought mine for only $1.00! So make sure you buy it cheap, in great condition, and also with the instructions! You'll need it!Read full review
I would like to start off by saying that in September 1999 when I first played this game I was floored! I have been playing the game since September 25th of '99 and haven't stopped liking it since. Well on to gameplay if you wheeeel, as the immortally fat Dusty Rhodes would say. Gameplay: This game came out as competetion for WWF Attitude and is way more simple in the gameplay department. You see in Attitude it was way to fighting game like, you pressed multiple buttons to do stuff. In Mayhem you just press square to grapple then you press a button and a direction to do stuff. Also in Mayhem to do a signature move you fill your momentum meter by assault your opponent then when it is flashing around the outside grapple and press Square, then bam finisher. Also you can go in the back to fight by going up the aisle and running out. Easy stuff. Score:5/5 Summary: Pick up and play, easy stuff. Sound: The sound in this game is great. There is commentary from Bobby ''the brain'' Heenan, Tony Schivonie, and introducing the graplers is Mean Gene Okerlund. Funny stuff from ''the brain''. Also in the ring there are grunts and groans, very audible. Also when they are slammed to the mat the mat makes a big sound, loud and realistic stuff here. Score:5/5 Summary: Very realistic fell, sounds great. Graphics: The graphics in this game are first rate for PSone. With perfect faces, identical to there real life counterparts. Aside from faulty collision detection there are perfect PSone graphics. Beside what PSone wrestling game has good collision detection? Score:4/5 Summary: A side from collision detection, great stuff here. One player experience: There is Quest for the Best. This is a lengthy run through the ranks of the WCW's top grapplers where you capture T.V. or cruiserweight, U.S., and World Titles. You have to do this 4 times to unlock every one once on easy, normal, hard, and you have to be a cruiserweight. This takes a while, but it's fun. Score:4/5 Summary: Nothing special but still fun. Multiplayer Experience: Very good multi-player experience. There 1-on-1, 2-on-1, Tag Team, 3 way, 4 way, and battle royale (4 way but over the top rope). Should keep you busy for a while with your friends. Score:4/5 Sumarry: If they had a cage or a longer royal rumble than it would get a five.Read full review
