I bought Thundercats a month ago just because I was curious about the game. I like old school beaters and I liked both the classic and the now canceled CN version too. So I bought this game well is it worth owning. The answer is no. Graphics. Large colorful backgrounds, decent size sprites, stilled images this is one of the best looking GBA games I ever played, oh wait this is a DS game and it was released last year. Yeah the graphics aren't much to speak about but the game is trying to be retro so I'll cut it some slack that it's pretty much looks like a GBA game. Sound. Some decent retro sounding music but they recycle the same sound clip over and over again. Every special attack Lion-no does, every time you continue, every time you start a stage you will hear Thundercats HO. Never the full thunder, thunder, thundercats ho. Gameplay. Retro brawler to the extreme there are only to buttons attack and jump. Liono can combo, slide, and he can also perform a charge attack for basic attacks. These feel just a bit clunky and there is no way to block enemy shots or attack other then to hit them first. And when you have large lizards on stage attacking you will get your butt kicked. Not that Lion-o is completey alone though he has his sword of Omens and the other thundercats to assist him. Comboing builds up power and when you have enough you can press the touch screen to let out a red beam from his sword to attack enemies in front. Collecting thundercats insignias will allow him to call in the 4 other thundercats. Tigera will shoot all enmies, Panthro will blow up random areas on the screen with his thunder tank, Wily Kit and Kat will throw out power ups, and Cheetara does pretty much nothing. These guys can help you out of a jam but the game itself is terrible. The jump while fine for a brawler sucks at the platforming elements in the game. But the worst part is it's one life with loooooonnnnnnnngggggggg ways between check points. I made it to the Tower of Omens and quit it was a repetitive stage that was basically beat lizard, jump across pit, avoid saws, and kill statues over and over and over again. Finally got to the boss only to die because the game also contains a timer. If I am running out of time between checkpoints that easily then put in more checkpoints. Especially when the timer is 10 minutes long. While it's a shame that the same numb nuts at CN who thought the Loony Tunes show was actually a good idea decided to can this show this game is definitely not a way to relieve the shows greatest moments. Bad controls, one life with long way between check points. Thundercats isn't that fun.Read full review
