OK, so I pre-ordered the NES classic (US/EU version ) and love the collection of games that it provides. So why would you want the Famicom mini? There were 2 things missing from the NES classic which prevented it being the perfect Nintendo retro product... 1. You had to buy an addition controller for 2 player games 2. It did not have NES golf. So, for the famicom mini to have 2 controllers + golf out the box was a deal clincher for me. In addition, the game is in Japanese (this is WAY better than the boring English that we are all used to) You guts NEED one of these, I only hope that the mighty N sees fit to do another production run

Nintendo brought a nice retro gaming engine for the fans (like me) : The material is sturdy (just like the original). The user interface is well made and friendly to use even for non-japanese speaker. The tune playing while in the choice menu is well inspired and fit the retro atmosphere perfectly. Also, the possibility to save up to 4 parties by title is just great. We can still argue with the game list choice, as few popular titles (eg. "Twin Bee") are missing. But still it guarantees you hours and hours of fun with your 30+ yo friends :)

I had a hard time getting the NES classic and had given up. I found this Japanese version which carries 22 of the same games on the NES classic, with 8 popular Japanese titles. I feel this version is even more authentic since Nintendo is originally a Japanese company and the games were originally programmed in Japanese.

The original Famicom is a calming piece of technology. Each cartridge fits snugly and securely in its safe space. The controllers have a place to rest after a blistering game of Super Mario Bros. The NES was designed to resemble a VCR, whereas the Famicom is form, function, and art. Let’s NintenGOOOOO!

Classic games. It's just like the NES Classic Mini but in Japanese (obviously). Only drawbacks: Tiny controllers (this becomes a problem only in games that heavily utilize the diagonal directions on the d-pad, i.e. megaman with metal blade). Controllers do not unplug like in the NES Classic Mini. Not a big deal, but buyers should know this.
