Very fine product that is no longer made. The receive section is incredible and the transmitter is quite good too. Kenwood even made a receive only radio for those short wave listeners out of this radio! No software defined filtering was used in the manufacture of this item! Just good engineering by a very fine group of folks who did just what they set out to do! The only frustrating thing that immediately comes to mind about the product is that it's not the most efficient of it's type. When the device is in operation there is quite lot of heat that is dissapatted from the unit, indicating that there is a lot of wasted power being used to keep it running. In an application that will require good efficiency such as a power system that employs renewable sources of energy and batteries this radio probably wouldn't be your 1st choice.Read full review

If you are going to use a TS-440S for Amateur service then you need to know all the operating procedures and be able to repair the unit as necessary(or modify it). With this cd you have what you need to do both items, you can really enjoy your unit knowing that you have it operating at peak.

Overall manual is good, some of the schematics are difficult to read.

I can receive HF better with this old Kenwood than I do with my 1-year-old 991a. says a lot about Kenwoods quality. It is my first Kenwood but I'm probably going to make them my goto,
